Devokeyous Keyshawn Hamilton (born March 8, 2001), known professionally as Lazer Dim 700 (stylized LAZER DIM 700), is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter from Cordele, Georgia. [1] He is known for his beats which often feature chaotic 808s and his off-the-dome style of rapping. He's been described by Pitchfork as "Young Nudy crossed with Playboi Carti" and as "Atlanta's most chaotic and fun new rapper." [2]
Hamilton performed at Summer Smash, a music festival hosted by Lyrical Lemonade and SPKRBX, on June 14, 2024. [3] He is part of the lineup for Rolling Loud 2024, which will take place in Miami for their 10th anniversary. He is slated to perform on December 15, 2024. [4]
Hamilton creates all his music using the BandLab app. [5]
Hamilton doesn't plan out most of his lyrics. He mostly raps whatever comes to his mind. His delivery often has no "hook, bridge, or break for air, just a perpetual stream-of-consciousness." [5]
Hamilton constantly makes new music with a focus on choosing "weirdo" beats, like his song Injoyable which samples Spongebob's laugh. [5] The bass of his songs have been described by Fader as "being tailormade to wound subwoofers." [1] Alphonse Pierre, writer for Pitchfork, said of the instrumentals he raps over as "draw[ing] their influence from the maximalism of Lex Luger and Young Chop and the vibey original wave of plugg, with boosted bass similar to Brazilian funk. [2]
Hamilton has been rapping since the second grade, when he lived in Cordele, a small town two hours south of Atlanta. [5]
Hamilton was inspired by his mother’s boyfriend, who set up a makeshift studio in their house to record rap, and the Atlanta rap he heard on the radio. Hamilton would make music using two phones at once—one to play the beat, the other to record everything. [5]
Hamilton has a two year old son. [5]
