Leah Turner (born July 29, 1987) is a Mexican-American country music singer who was previously signed with Columbia Nashville.

Early life and education

Turner was born on July 29, 1987, in California. [1] [2] She was raised on a ranch with horses, goats, and chickens in Morongo Valley, California. [3] [2] [4] Turner attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and took music and songwriting classes. [3] [4] [5] While at UCSB, she sang in front of Kenny Loggins who convinced her to move to Los Angeles, California to pursue her career. [3] [4] [5]

Career

Turner took Kenny Loggins' advice and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a singing career. She worked with Humberto Gatica and David Foster, but moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a country career. [3] [4] [5]

Turner was signed to Columbia Nashville in July 2013. [1] [3] [4] [5] Her debut single, "Take the Keys," was co-written with Cary Barlowe and Jesse Frasure and released on October 7, 2013. [6] The song debuted at number 60 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart dated for the week ending October 19, 2013, and peaked at number 37 while spending 23 weeks total listed. [7] [8] [9] Her second single, "Pull Me Back," spent one week on the Billboard Country Airplay chart at number 52. [8] [9]

In 2022, Turner released her EP Lost In Translation allowing her to fully embrace her heritage, as exemplified by the standout single "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." She recorded a song in 2023 with a song in Spanglish called "South of The Border" (featuring country artist Jerrod Niemann), and now has a current single out "T-Shirt" from her forthcoming EP, set to release in spring of 2024.[ citation needed ]

Turner holds the title of the highest-charted solo female Mexicana in country music, and is the first Mexicana to have her attire featured in the "Power of Women in Country Music" GRAMMY exhibit.[ citation needed ]

Love and Theft is an American country music duo consisting of vocalists Eric Gunderson and Stephen Barker Liles. They originally recorded as a trio with vocalist Brian Bandas; after he exited the band, Gunderson and Liles continued as a duo. Signed to Lyric Street Records subsidiary Carolwood Records in 2009, Love and Theft made their chart debut in early 2009 with the single "Runaway," which reached the Top 10 on Billboard Hot Country Songs. Joanna Smith is an American country music singer. Before graduating from Vanderbilt University in 2018, she attended Auburn University for one year before pursuing a music career by playing with Mustang Sally at age eighteen. After leaving the band she began songwriting and recording demos. After signing to a publishing contract with Big Borrassa Music, she wrote two songs for other artists, including "Flying By", which was recorded by Billy Ray Cyrus on his 2007 album Home at Last. Also in 2007, Smith's rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" was included on the Song of America compilation album.

The discography of American country artist Ashley Monroe consists of five full-length studio albums, two extended plays, nine singles, seven other appearances, and seven music videos. Following the death of her father in 2000, Monroe moved to Nashville, Tennessee as a teenager to pursue a music career. In 2006 and at age nineteen, she signed a contract with Columbia Records. She collaborated with producer Mark Wright on her debut studio album and released an advanced single in 2006 called "Satisfied". The song became a minor hit, only reaching the forty-third position on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. A second single "I Don't Want To" reached the top forty. Columbia failed to release her album until a top-twenty hit was created from the project. Meanwhile, advanced CD copies were briefly distributed. Monroe was eventually dropped from the label in 2007.
