Leeds City Police

Leeds City Police was the police force responsible for policing the city of Leeds in northern England from its formation in 1836, until 1974, when it was amalgamated under the Local Government Act 1972 with the Bradford City Police and part of the West Yorkshire Constabulary to form the West Yorkshire Police. The Chapeltown Riots of 1981 took place in the Leeds district of Chapeltown in West Yorkshire, England, during a time when many other areas of the UK were suffering similar problems. The riots unfolded in July 1981 from a background of racial tension, inner city poverty, poor housing and high unemployment. This brought high tension, particularly amongst the area's Caribbean community, culminating in attacks on the local police.

Leeds Blitz

The Leeds Blitz comprised nine air raids on the city of Leeds, the United Kingdom's third largest city, by the Nazi German Luftwaffe. The heaviest raid took place on the night of 14/15 March 1941, affecting the city centre, Beeston, Bramley and Armley. The city was subjected to other raids during the Second World War, but they were relatively minor; only the March 1941 raid caused widespread damage, including to the city's museum and its artefacts.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is the combined authority for West Yorkshire in England. It was established by statutory instrument under the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009 on 1 April 2014. The January 1995 United Kingdom Blizzard was a period of extremely heavy snowfall that effected Northern England from the 25th-26th of January 1995. The snow hit the major cities during the rush hour, earlier than expected, and brought chaos to the cities of Sheffield and Leeds, leaving thousands stranded overnight. The city of Leeds received over 45 cm (18 in) in just the first 3 hours of the storm.

The 2021 Leeds City Council election will be held on Thursday 6 May 2021 to elect members of Leeds City Council in England.

The Mayor of West Yorkshire is a proposed directly elected mayor responsible for the metropolitan county of West Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. They will chair and lead the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

2021 West Yorkshire mayoral election

The inaugural West Yorkshire mayoral election is expected to be held on Thursday 6 May 2021 to elect the mayor of West Yorkshire. It will take place on the same day as other local elections across the United Kingdom, including council elections for each of the five constituent council authorities and the police and crime commissioner of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
