Leonie Maria Walter (born 17 January 2004) is a German visually impaired cross-country skier and biathlete who competed at the 2022 Winter Paralympics.
Walter represented Germany at the 2022 Winter Paralympics and won a gold medal in the women's 10 kilometres, and three bronze medals in the women's 6 kilometres, and 12.5 kilometres biathlon events, and in the 15 kilometre classical cross-country skiing event. [1] [2] Pirmin Strecker has competed as her sighted guide.
She represented Germany at the 2025 Winter World University Games and won a gold medal in the 10 kilometre freestyle event. [3]
Maria Ivanovna Gusakova was a Russian cross-country skier who competed from the late 1950s to the early 1960s for VSS Spartak. She won a complete set of Winter Olympic medals as part of the Soviet team with a gold in the 10 km (1960), a silver in the 3 × 5 km relay (1960), and a bronze in the 10 km (1964). Gusakova also earned a complete set of medals at the 1962 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with a gold in the 3 × 5 km relay, a silver in the 10 km, and a bronze in the 5 km. Her husband Nikolay Gusakov also competed at the 1960 Winter Olympics and claimed bronze in Nordic combined event.
Brian McKeever is a Canadian cross-country skier and biathlete, who became Canada's most decorated Winter Paralympian when he won his 14th medal at the 2018 Winter Paralympics. He finished the 2018 Games with a career total of 13 gold medals and 17 medals, making him the most decorated Paralympic cross-country skier ever. McKeever claimed a 16th Paralympic gold medal in the men's para cross-country middle distance vision impaired race at Beijing 2022, drawing him level with the German para-alpine racer Gerd Schönfelder for the most men's Winter Paralympic wins.
Oksana Oleksandrivna Masters is an American multi-sport Paralympic athlete from Louisville, Kentucky. Having primarily specialized in rowing and cross-country skiing, she won the first ever United States medal in trunk and arms mixed double sculls at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. She was also a part of the U.S. Nordic skiing team at the 2014 Winter Paralympics and the 2018 Winter Paralympics. She won two Paralympic medals in 2014 and five Paralympic medals in 2018, including two gold. She switched to para-cycling after the 2012 Paralympics and competed at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics, winning two gold medals at the latter. She competed at the 2022 Winter Paralympics, winning a gold medal in Biathlon – Women's 6 kilometres, sitting.
Christopher Klebl is an American-Canadian cross-country skier who represented the United States at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Paralympics before winning a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Winter Paralympics.
Birgit Lovise Røkkum Skarstein is a Norwegian former Paralympic athlete and social entrepreneur who competed in pararowing and para cross-country skiing. She is a Paralympic champion and silver medallist, six-time world champion and four-time European champion in single sculls. Skarstein has won a total of twelve World Championships medals, eight in rowing and four in cross-country skiing, and holds the world best time in women's single sculls. She announced her retirement on 1 January 2025.

The 2025 FISU Winter World University Games, also known as the XXXII Winter World University Games, or the 32nd Winter Universiade, and commonly known as Turin 2025 or Torino 2025, is an ongoing multi-sport event ran from 13–23 January 2025, in Turin, Italy. The Piedmontese capital was confirmed as the host city for the games on 15 May 2021. This was the 12th time that the World University Games has been held in Italy, the 7th time that the Winter Games were held in Italy, and the 2nd time in the city, as the city previously hosted the 2007 Games. The city is considered the birthplace of the event, as it hosted the first summer Games in 1959 and again in 1970, becoming the first city to host summer and winter editions of the World University Games. If the summer editions are counted, this is the 12th time that the World University Games have been held on Italian soil, as the most recent were the 2019 Games held in Naples.
