Leslie Satianathan Nathaniel (born 1954) is an Anglican priest. [1]

Nathaniel was educated at Bangalore University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Birmingham University. [2] He was ordained in 2002. He worked for the Church Mission Society from 1999 to 2004. Since then he has worked in Germany. Nathaniel has been Archdeacon of the East, Germany and Northern Europe since October 2019. [3]

An archdeacon is a senior clergy position in the Syriac Orthodox Church, Church of the East, Chaldean Catholic Church, Anglican Communion, St Thomas Christians, Eastern Orthodox churches and some other Christian denominations, above that of most clergy and below a bishop. In the High Middle Ages it was the most senior diocesan position below a bishop in the Catholic Church. An archdeacon is often responsible for administration within an archdeaconry, which is the principal subdivision of the diocese. The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church has defined an archdeacon as "A cleric having a defined administrative authority delegated to him by the bishop in the whole or part of the diocese." The office has often been described metaphorically as that of oculus episcopi, the "bishop's eye".

The Diocese in Europe is a diocese of the Church of England. It was originally formed in 1842 as the Diocese of Gibraltar. It is geographically the largest diocese of the Church of England and the largest diocese in the Anglican Communion, covering some one-sixth of the Earth's landmass, including Morocco, Europe, Turkey, Mongolia and the territory of the former Soviet Union.

The Bishop of Chichester is the ordinary of the Church of England Diocese of Chichester in the Province of Canterbury. The diocese covers the counties of East and West Sussex.
