Alexis Marie Nucklos-Allen (born October 2, 1967), [2] better known by her stage name Lexi Allen, is an American gospel singer, producer, actress, comedian, television personality, and screenwriter.

Early life

Alexis Marie Nucklos was born in Columbus, Ohio, where she grew up singing in her grandfather's church. [3] Nucklos is the daughter of physician Dr. Ruby Nucklos. She attended and graduated from Bowsher High School in Toledo. Nucklos later attended Bowling Green State University, where she majored in communications. [4] During her freshman year in college, she was awarded the Ms. Bronze Pageant. [5] In 1989, she became a member of Zeta Phi Beta. [6]

Career

For a time she sang background vocals for, among others, Gerald LeVert, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, and Fred Hammond. [7] [8] After the release of her debut album Call Her Lexi (1990) [3] [9] [10] she stepped away from music, instead studying and working as a teacher, before renewing her singing career a decade later. [4] [11] Nucklos also married a music producer Michael Allen, who helped manage her musical career. During their marriage, Allen captured the attention of former boxing champion Evander Holyfield, who had set up the record label Real Deal Records. [12] While signed onto Holyfield's label, Lexi released Lexi & That's the Way It Is (2002), A Praise in the Valley (2004) and What Heaven Hears (2005).

The 2004 album earned her a Stellar Gospel Music Award nomination. [8] [13] In 2006, Allen became the public face of The Word Network, where she presents the regular program "The Word Network Church with Lexi". [14] She also hosted The Lexi Show, aired by The Word Network, on which she has interviewed such guests as B.Slade (then known as Tonex), Carlton Pearson, Shirley Caesar, DeWayne Woods and many others. In 2010, The Lexi Show was suspended for nearly a year, [18] [19] soon after an interview in which Tonex spoke candidly about his same-sex attraction and his views on sexuality in general. [20] [21] The show returned in 2011, [17] [22] and later after a three-year hiatus, in 2015. [23]

Her 2012 album Phenomenal was produced after she signed with Malaco Music Group. [24] [25] The singles "Burn It All Down" and "Abide" from this album hit the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs charts, [26] peaking at #20 and #14 respectively. [27]

Allen appears regularly on The Yolanda Adams Morning Show with the segment "Inside Inspiration with Lexi". [28] On her YouTube channel, she has created comedy videos dealing with subjects such as church culture, African-American culture, and parodies of well-known TV shows. [29] [30] [31] She also runs ALX Hair, a business selling hair extensions. [32]

Personal life

Michael Dwayne Allen, her husband, was diagnosed with cancer and ultimately succumbed to the disease on October 5, 2004. [33] Lexi has a son, Michael Alexander Osaze Allen, [34] by her late husband Michael.

"Misty Blue" is a song written by Bob Montgomery that has been recorded and made commercially successful by several music artists. Although Montgomery wrote the song for a different artist in mind, it was brought first to the attention of Wilma Burgess in 1966. It was recorded by Eddy Arnold the following year, both versions were top 5 Country Hits. A decade later, blues artist Dorothy Moore released the highest-charting version of the song and it reached the top ten in several different radio formats. Following Moore's revival of the track, numerous artists re-covered the tune, including country artist Billie Jo Spears. Spears's version would also go on to become a successful single release. Numerous other artists and musicians of different genres have recorded their own versions of "Misty Blue". The song is now considered both a country music and blues standard.

Mattie Moss Clark was an American gospel choir director and the mother of The Clark Sisters, a gospel vocal group. She was the longest-serving International Minister of Music for the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). "Her arrangements, perhaps influenced by her classical training, replaced the unison or two-part textures of earlier gospel music with three-part settings of the music for soprano, alto, and tenor voice ranges—a technique that remained common in gospel choir music for decades afterward."

Anthony Charles Williams II, better known by his stage name B.Slade, formerly known under the gospel moniker Tonéx, is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, rapper, dancer, producer, and activist from San Diego, CA. He has gone by various names and aliases, but his primary stage name of choice had for years been "Tonéx". In 2010, he began using the stage name B.Slade to rebrand himself.
