The principal is Andrea Markert, who was hired in April 2013 after having served as interim principal for the 2012–2013 school year and as assistant principal from 2010 to 2012. Athletic teams are known as the Pioneers and the school colors are kelly green and gold.

Alex Tanney is an American football coach and former quarterback who serves as the offensive passing game coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Monmouth College and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. Tanney was also a member of the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants before retiring in 2020.

Walter Mendenhall is a former American football running back. He played college football at Illinois from 2005 to 2007 before transferring to Illinois State where he played in 2008. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2009 and was also a member of the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, and Cincinnati Bengals. He is the brother of former Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall.
Billy Charles Dicken is a former arena football quarterback who is currently the defensive quality coach for the NC State Football team. Dicken played in the Arena Football League (AFL) from 2001 to 2006 for the Chicago Rush, Detroit Fury, New Orleans VooDoo and the Columbus Destroyers. He played college football at Purdue University from 1994 to 1997.

The Illini finished in three-way tie for sixth place in the Big Ten Conference, compiled a 3–7–1 record, and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 326 to 241. The team played its home games at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois.
