Light This City is an American melodic death metal band from the Bay Area of San Francisco, that has been active from 2002. [1] [2] The band is notable for the aggressive vocal approach of frontwoman Laura Nichol. [3]

History

Light This City's first album, The Hero Cycle , was released through Reflections on Ruin Records in 2003. [4] Tyler Gamlen (guitars) and Ben Murray (drums) were the co-founders of Reflections of Ruin Records, and the album was also the label's first official release. [5]

The band's next three albums — Remains of the Gods (2005), Facing the Thousand (2006), and Stormchaser (2008) — were released through Prosthetic Records. [4]

In 2008, Light This City decided to disband. After disbanding, Laura Nichol (vocalist) and Ben Murray (drummer) formed a punk rock band called Heartsounds. [6] Ryan Hansen (guitarist) and Jon Frost (bassist) formed the metal band The Urchin Barren. [7]

In April 2010, Light This City played four reunion shows. [1] Light This City played another reunion show on November 8, 2015 on the San Francisco date of Darkest Hour's 20th anniversary tour. [1] In September 2017, following a 10-year hiatus, Light This City announced that the band had reformed and was working on completing a new album through Creator-Destructor Records. [8] The resulting album, Terminal Bloom , was released on 25 May 2018. [9]

Light This City's albums have featured collaborations with musicians such as Chuck Billy of Testament ("Firehaven" off Stormchaser), and Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder ("Fear of Heights" off Facing the Thousand). [10] [11]

Virgin Black

Necrodeath is an Italian extreme metal band from Liguria. It is one of the first extreme metal bands originating in Italy. They take inspiration from Slayer, Dark Angel, Possessed, Venom, Kreator, Celtic Frost, Bathory and Sodom. The band is also renowned for its live performances, and notably for their "wall of sound".

Andreas Hedlund, better known by his stage names Vintersorg and Mr. V, is a Swedish vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who has played in several heavy metal bands.

Divine Heresy American metal band

<i>The Absence</i> (Luna Mortis album) 2009 studio album by Luna Mortis

The Absence is the second studio album by the American metal band Luna Mortis. The album was released in 2009 by Century Media and is the first studio album that Luna Mortis released through that record label. Four of the tracks on the album were recorded in February 2008 with producer Jason Suecof at his Audio Hammer Studios and were used as a demo that was sent out only to record labels in hopes of acquiring a recording contract for the band. It was those four songs that led to Century Media to sign Luna Mortis and shortly after, the band returned to Audio Hammer Studios in September of that same year to record the six other songs that make up the album. In September 2009, the band released a music video for the song "Forever More".

Boulder was an American rock band, formed in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1992. Members of the group had previously played in hardcore punk bands and were heavily influenced by the new wave of British heavy metal. Before releasing their debut album, The Rage of It All, they had toured in several clubs in Ohio. The group's bassist, Jamie Walters, would later play for Destructor and Midnight.

Haken (band) British metal band

Haken are an English progressive metal band formed in 2007 by multi-instrumentalist Richard Henshall, guitarist Matthew Marshall, and vocalist Ross Jennings. While Henshall, Marshall, and Jennings first had the idea of forming Haken in 2004, they opted to pursue their instruments and songwriting first. Upon recruiting other members three years later, they eventually released the demo Enter the 5th Dimension in 2008, signing with Sensory Records and releasing their first album Aquarius in 2010. As of 2020, they have released six studio albums, an EP, and two live albums.

Chakal is a blackened thrash metal band from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The band formed in 1985 and has to date released five albums through Cogumelo Records. Its debut record, Abominable Anno Domini, has been described as an "influential, genre-defining" example of Brazilian heavy metal.

Mutilator were a thrash / death metal band, formed in 1985 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. They released two full-length records through Cogumelo Records in the 1980s.
