Light Years are an American pop punk band from Kent, Ohio.

History

Light Years formed in the year 2009 while vocalist Pat Kennedy worked at a Subway restaurant. Since then, they have released one full-length album and three EPs. In winter 2011–2012, the band went on a full U.S. tour with Pentimento. [1] In February 2012, they went on a European tour with Pentimento. [2] The band embarked on a summer tour in 2012 alongside Citizen and Turnover. [3] In the spring of 2013, the band went on a tour with Safe. [4] In June and July, the group went on a short US tour with Mixtapes, You Blew It! and Modern Baseball. [5] In early 2014, the band played on The 2014 Acoustic Basement Tour, hosted by Warped Tour. [6] Between February and April, the band went on a US tour with Neck Deep and Knuckle Puck. [7] On March 16, the band performed at South by So What?! festival. [8] In the summer of 2014, the band performed on the 2014 Warped Tour. [9] The band released the Temporary EP through Animal Style in 2014. [10]

The band signed a worldwide deal with independent label Rude Records in 2015 and finished recording their second full-length album with Will Yip, which was released in the Fall of 2015. The band supported Neck Deep and State Champs on their UK tour in February 2016. [11] The band also supported Four Year Strong on their Spring 2016 Northeast tour along with Can't Swim. In March and April 2017, the group supported Four Year Strong again for their 10th anniversary tour for Rise or Die Trying (2007). [12]

Style

Rock Sound described Light Years' sound as "Smashing American pop-punk that prefers to hark back to the turn of the millenium instead of running with the current crowd". [10]

The song soon gained attention online, resulting in the addition of rhythm guitarist Matt West, drummer Dani Washington/Abasi, and bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans. Wishful Thinking is the debut studio album by the Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep. Vocalist Ben Barlow met guitarist Lloyd Roberts when Roberts was working with Barlow's brother, Seb. Following the upload of a song under the artist name Neck Deep, the song gained attention. This attention resulted in the duo obtaining guitarist Matt West, drummer Dani Washington and bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans. The band released two EPs, Rain in July (2012) and A History of Bad Decisions. In March 2013 the band started recording material at Celestial Recordings in Wrexham, where they began recording guitar, bass and vocals. The group then moved to Outhouse Studio in Reading, where they recorded drums. Material was produced by Seb Barlow and the band. In mid-August, the group had signed to Hopeless, and by late August, they announced the album had been finished.

Turnover is an American rock band from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Formed in 2009, the band is signed with the Run for Cover Records label. Turnover has released five albums, two EPs and a handful of singles.

Mixtapes was an American pop punk band from Cincinnati, Ohio signed to No Sleep Records. The band released multiple studio albums before entering an indefinite hiatus in 2013.

Pentimento is an American punk rock band from Buffalo, New York.

Better Off is an American rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 2011 under the name Friends. They changed their name in early 2013 to Better Off due to another group sharing the Friends name. They have released two albums, (I Think) I'm Leaving (2013) and Milk (2015), the latter of which charted on the Heatseekers Albums and Independent Albums charts. In March 2016, while on tour with Mayday Parade and The Maine, it was announced that the group would be dropping off tour and "going silent for a while" following sexual assault and abuse allegations against the bands former touring bassist, David Hobbs. During the bands hiatus and dissolvement of all relations with the former member, Better Off apologized to those involved with the situation and continued to quietly create and release their single "Bad Habit" on April 25, 2018.
