Lilita Zatlere (born 24 February 1953 Riga) is a Latvian businesswoman. She served as the First Lady of Latvia from 2007 to 2011 during the presidency of her husband,Valdis Zatlers. [1]
Zatlere was born in Riga on 24 February 1953. [1] She attended elementary school in Rīga No. 15 Eight-Year School. [1] She then studied at Rīga Trade Technical School and the Soviet-era People's University. [1] After completing school,Zatlere began working with art at an antiques shop. [1]
Following the restoration of Latvian independence,Lilita Zatlere was appointed to a Riga city commission which focused on compensating Latvians who had lost property during the Soviet occupation. [1] She served on the committee for three years. [1] From 1995 to 2007,she was the director of the Private Orthopaedic Practice,which supplied spinal implants to the Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopedics ,which was headed by her second husband,Valdis Zatlers. Riga Castle is a castle on the banks of River Daugava in Riga,the capital of Latvia. The castle was founded in 1330. Its structure was thoroughly rebuilt between 1497 and 1515. Upon the castle's seizure by the Swedes,they constructed spacious annexes in 1641. The fortress was continually augmented and reconstructed between the 17th and 19th centuries. Sometime in the 1930s,some renovation work was done by architect Eižens Laube. The Latvian government declared the castle its residence in 1938. Today it is the official residence of the President of Latvia as well as home to several museums.

Hilda Vīka,also known as Hilda Vīka-Eglīte,was a Latvian artist and writer. She made stylised watercolour and oil paintings of everyday life and dreamy visions. She wrote poetry,short stories and novels,illustrating her own works. Beginning in the 1930s,she incorporated Latvian mythology in her works. During the Soviet era she adapted to socialist realism but was expelled from the artist union for most of the 1950s. She was married to the writer Viktors Eglītis.
