Lincoln Plaza is a 31-storey luxury housing development situated on Millharbour on the Isle of Dogs, part of the Docklands area of London, England and located near South Quay DLR station. Lincoln Plaza is one of several new high-rise residential developments that have been constructed on the Isle of Dogs in recent years. Designed by BUJ Architects for Galliard Homes, [1] it features two residential towers, and also includes a hotel. [2] The hotel opened in 2018 [3] [4] and will operate under the Curio brand by Hilton. [5]

The Isle of Dogs is a large peninsula spanning Poplar and Millwall districts and is bounded on three sides by one of the largest meanders in the River Thames in East London and is in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is a part of the East End. The northern boundary has never been clearly or consistently defined, but many accept it to be the (former) line of the West India South Dock. The name Isle of Dogs had no official status until 1987, with the creation of the Isle of Dogs Neighbourhood by Tower Hamlets London Borough Council, and referred to as the Island.

South Quay is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station on the Isle of Dogs, East London, England. The station is between Crossharbour and Heron Quays stations and is in Travelcard Zone 2. South Quay is in between the Millwall and Cubitt Town and is located on the southern shore of the South Dock of the West India Docks; the current station platforms sit astride the channel connecting Millwall Dock to the West India Docks.

Design

In 2016, it was named by Building Design magazine as that year's "worst new building" in its annual Carbuncle Cup competition. [2] [6] [7] [8] The developers stated that "These awards are really subjective matters of taste...Architectural design is art, and like all art, a matter of personal tastes. The scheme sold out to buyers, so clearly the project is liked by the purchasers." [9]

The Carbuncle Cup is an architecture prize, given annually by the magazine Building Design to "the ugliest building in the United Kingdom completed in the last 12 months". Through ticketing is allowed between both stations.

Columbus Tower (London)

Columbus Tower was a planned high-rise development by Commercial Estates Group approved for construction on a site on the Isle of Dogs, London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The 63-storey, 242 m (794 ft) AOD tower would have been located on a 0.36-hectare site at the western end of the north dock at West India Quay. At 2009 projected cost was £450M to build and reaching 237 metres in height, and projected was taller only by 2 m than One Canada Square.

It has been designed by BUJ Architects for AccorHotels as one of the company's Novotel hotels and has 313 rooms. It is the tallest all-hotel building in the United Kingdom and the tallest Novotel in the world.
