Specific responsibilities and the degree of autonomy vary based on each state. Ellsworth County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. As of the 2010 census, the county population was 6,497. Its county seat and most populous city is Ellsworth.

Tribes in the western part of the state were semi-nomadic and hunted large herds of bison.
