Linda Gist Calvin is an American businesswoman who served as the 41st president general of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Calvin was born and raised in Visalia,California. [1] She attended College of the Sequoias and completed the business curriculum at Central Valley School of Business. [1]
Calvin was the executive secretary to the director of human resources and labor relations at Schenley Industries. [1] She is the president and managing partner of multiple family-owned businesses. [1]
Calvin is the third generation of her family to join the Daughters of the American Revolution. [1] Her mother,Peggy Gist,and her sisters,Barbara Gist Jaggers and Carol Gist Reeder,were also members. [1] She served as a chapter regent and as Director of California District V. [1] She and her sisters served as pages at the state and national level,were California Outstanding Juniors,and served as National Chairwomen of the Guest Hospitality Committee. [1]
From 2000 to 2002,she served as the State Regent of California. [1] From 2004 to 2007,she served as Recording Secretary General. [1] From 2007 to 2010,she served as president general. [2] [3]
On July 11,2008,she hosted Robert M. Gates,the United States Secretary of Defense,at the national society's National Defense Night during their Continental Congress at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington,D.C. [4]
As president general,she was a proponent of celebrating Constitution Week. [5] [6] She attended the Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution 110th State Conference in April 2009 in Jefferson City. [7] In May 2009,she attended the Oklahoma Society Daughters of the American Revolution's 100th anniversary celebration at their state conference in Midwest City. [8]
Calvin is married to Jerry Calvin,with whom she has two sons. [1] She is a Pentecostal Christian and attends Calvary Chapel Church of Visalia. [1]
She is a member of the National Society Dames of the Court of Honor,First Families of Tennessee,the National Assistance League,and the National Gavel Society. [1]
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a patriot of the American Revolutionary War. A non-profit group,the organization promotes education and patriotism. Its membership is limited to direct lineal descendants of soldiers or others of the American Revolution era who aided the revolution and its subsequent war. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a birth certificate indicating that their gender is female. DAR has over 190,000 current members in the United States and other countries. The organization's motto is "God,Home,and Country".

DAR Constitution Hall is a concert hall located at 1776 D Street NW,near the White House in Washington,D.C. It was built in 1929 by the Daughters of the American Revolution to house its annual convention when membership delegations outgrew Memorial Continental Hall. Later,the two buildings were connected by a third structure housing the DAR Museum,administrative offices,and genealogical library. DAR Constitution Hall is still owned and operated by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985. It has been a major cultural center of the city since its construction,and houses its largest auditorium.
The National Society Children of the American Revolution (NSCAR) is a youth organization that was founded on April 5,1895,by Harriett Lothrop. The idea was proposed on February 22,1895,at the Fourth Continental Congress of the National Society,Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The organization was promptly chartered by the United States Congress,and is now the nation's oldest and largest,patriotic youth organization. NSCAR offers membership to anyone under the age of 22 who is lineally descended from someone who served in the Continental Army or gave material aid to the cause of freedom in the American Revolution.
