Lindsey Garrett is a British social housing campaigner, National Health Service care co-ordinator and political activist. Garrett is currently the Chair of the New Era Tenants Association. She is also the Something New candidate for Mayor of London at the 2016 London mayoral election.
When Westbrook Partners attempted to evict 93 families from the New Era estate and double the rent of those left, Garrett was instrumental from preventing that from happening. Garrett was responsible for first contacting the Daily Mirror with the story and was later elected the first Chair of the New Era Tenants Association. [1] She campaigned alongside political activist and comedian, Russell Brand. Garrett presented a petition to 10 Downing Street alongside Brand that had almost 300,000 signatures. Garrett helped lead a demonstration outside Westbrook Partner's offices in London. [2]
Garrett has said that she is a traditional Labour voter and has always voted for Labour, but said that she feels let down by the party, in particular her local MP Meg Hillier, and that she does not think that the Labour Party care about people like her anymore. [3]
On 14 May 2015, it was announced that Garrett would be standing as Something New's candidate for Mayor of London in the 2016 London mayoral election. [4] [5] She is standing on a platform of further devolution to London, electoral reform including votes at 16 and also reducing the privileges of the City of London Corporation. [6] However, on Monday 30 November 2015, it was announced via the Something New website that she had withdrawn as candidate. [7]
The Respect Party was a left-wing to far-left, socialist political party active in the United Kingdom between 2004 and 2016. At the height of its success in 2007, the party had one Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons and nineteen councillors in local government.

Something New is a political party in the United Kingdom, founded in October 2014. The party is primarily based on the concept of an open-source manifesto, which means that it could be described as a party of the radical centre, as it combines ideas from the left and right of politics. It could also be described as syncretic. As such, Something New has no fixed ideology and instead believes in evidence-based policy creation.

Focus E15 is a campaign group formed in London in 2013 by a group of mothers threatened with eviction from their emergency accommodation. E15 is the postcode of the Stratford district in east London. Having successfully won their own battle, the group has occupied various buildings and supported different individual struggles in order to protest against the local housing policy of Newham Council and for housing rights more generally.
Brianna Westbrook is an American transgender rights activist who is a vice-chair and executive committee member of the Arizona Democratic Party. A former political director of Equality Arizona, she is the first transgender person to be elected as a vice-chair of a state Democratic Party. She ran as a Justice Democrat in the Arizona's 8th congressional district special election primary following the resignation of Trent Franks in 2018. In 2020, she was elected as the Democratic Socialists of America's Southwest Regional Co-Chair for the Immigrants Rights Working Group steering committee.
Margot Black is an American tenant rights organizer, activist, grass-roots lobbyist and former political candidate. She helped found and was co-chair of Portland Tenants United, Portland's metro-wide tenant union focused on tenants' rights to secure, safe, affordable and equitable housing, tenant-union organizing, eviction prevention, and providing emergency assistance for renters navigating housing law.
