The Alaska Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Alaska. It is a bicameral institution consisting of the 40-member Alaska House of Representatives and the 20-member Alaska Senate. There are 40 House Districts (1–40) and 20 Senate Districts (A–T). With a total of 60 lawmakers, the Alaska Legislature is the smallest bicameral state legislature in the United States and the second-smallest of all state legislatures. There are no term limits for either chamber. The Alaska Legislature meets in the Alaska State Capitol in Juneau, Alaska. The current meeting since 2023 is the 33rd Alaska State Legislature. The previous meeting, the 32nd Alaska State Legislature, met from 2021 to 2023.
Steller Secondary School is an alternative school located in Anchorage, Alaska. The Anchorage School District established the school in 1974 as a response to a proposal by the Committee of Alternative Secondary Education. Steller was named after Georg Wilhelm Steller, a naturalist from Germany who traveled with Vitus Bering on an exploratory voyage to Alaska.
The Alaska State House of Representatives is the lower house in the Alaska Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Alaska. The House is composed of 40 members, each of whom represents a district of approximately 17,756 people per 2010 census figures. Members serve two-year terms without term limits. With 40 representatives, the Alaska House is the smallest state legislative lower chamber in the United States. The House convenes at the State Capitol in Juneau.
Bettye Jean Davis was an American social worker and politician. She was the first African-American to be elected as an Alaska State Senator in 2000.
Lesil Lynn McGuire is an American politician in the state of Alaska. She served as a Republican member of the Alaska Senate from 2007 until 2017, after her tenure as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 2000 through 2006. She served Senate District N until redistricting in 2012 placed her in District K for 2013.
Gary Lee Stevens is a Republican member of the Alaska Senate, representing the C District since his appointment in February 2003. He was previously a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 2001 through 2003. Stevens was Senate President for four years, from 2009 through 2012, leading a bipartisan coalition of 10 Democrats and six Republicans. He will again serve as Senate President from 2023 onwards, leading a bipartisan coalition of 9 Democrats and 8 Republicans.
Elizabeth J. "Beth" Kerttula is a Democratic former member of the Alaska House of Representatives, representing the 3rd District from 1998 to her resignation at the start of the legislative session in 2014. Sam Kito III was appointed to serve the remainder of her term. She served as the House Minority Leader from 2006 until her resignation, when she was succeeded by Chris Tuck. She resigned on the first day of the 2014 legislative session to accept a fellowship at the Center for Ocean Solutions at Stanford University, her alma mater. She was appointed as Director of the National Oceans Council, under President Barack Obama, on June 5, 2014. She was the daughter of Joyce and state senator Jalmar M. Kerttula. Her father represented the Matanuska-Susitna Valley in the Alaska legislature for most of the period between 1961 and 1995 and served as the Senate President.
Bryce Edgmon is a member of the Alaska House of Representatives, representing the 37th District. He served as speaker from 2017–2021. The district includes all or portions of the Kodiak Island Borough, Aleutians East Borough, Lake and Peninsula Borough, Bristol Bay Borough, and the Yukon–Koyukuk Census Area.

Peggy Wilson is a former Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives, who represented the 2nd District from 2001 through 2013 and the 33rd district from 2013 to 2015. She had also served as the majority leader. She had previously served for five years in the North Carolina House of Representatives. Wilson served as Chair of the Transportation Committee, and was a member of the Education Committee, Resources Committee, State Affairs Committee, and the Legislative Council. She also served on the Education & Early Development, Labor & Workforce Development, and Transportation & Public Facilities Finance Subcommittees, for the 26th Legislature. She is also a registered nurse.
Catherine Norah Muñoz is an American politician who was a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives, who from 2009 to 2017 represented the 34th District. She served as Co-Chair of the Community and Regional Affairs Committee, Vice-Chair of the Education Committee, and served two terms on the House Finance Committee. She served as Co-Chair of the Community & Regional Affairs Committee and Vice-Chair of the Education Committee. Muñoz has been a small business owner since 1988. She was appointed by Governor Michael J. Dunleavy in 2018 to serve as the Deputy Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Muñoz was a third-generation member of the Alaska Legislature. Her father served in the Alaska House and Senate, her grandfather as the mayor of Douglas, Alaska and in the Territorial and State Senates, and her grandmother served in the Territorial House.
Charisse Millett is a Republican former member of the Alaska House of Representatives, representing the 25th District from 2009 to 2019. In the 29th Legislature, from 2015 to 2016, she was the House Majority Leader. In the 30th Legislature, she served the House Minority Leader. She has also served as co-chair of the Energy Special Committee, and is a member of the Community & Regional Affairs Committee, Rules Committee, Fisheries Special Committee, and Armed Services Committee. She also serves on the Administration, Health & Social Services, and Transportation & Public Facilities Finance Subcommittees, for the 26th Legislature. Charisse Millett was a former Alaska State Legislative aide from 2005 to 2007 before being elected into office. In 2018, she was defeated in the Republican primary by Josh Revak.
Mike Hawker is a former Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives, representing the 28th District from 2003 to 2017. He served as Chair of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Budget & Audit Committee. He is former Co-chair of the Finance Committee and Ways and Means Committees. Mike Hawker is also a retired Certified Public Accountant and an Accounting and Management Consultant.
Charles Michael Chenault is an American politician in the state of Alaska. Chenault served as a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 2001 to 2019, representing portions of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, where he has lived for most of his life. Chenault served as the body's speaker from 2009 to 2017. He lost his position as house speaker to Democrat Bryce Edgmon when three Republicans joined a coalition of Democrats to form a bipartisan house majority after the general election in November 2016.
Chris Tuck is an American politician from the state of Alaska. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served member of the Alaska House of Representatives, representing the 23rd and 29th Districts in Anchorage from 2008 to 2023. He was the Majority Leader of the Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition. Previously, Tuck served on the Anchorage School Board. Tuck had run unsuccessfully for the State House in 2004 and 2006 before winning election in 2008.
John Bruce Coghill Jr. is an American politician who served as a member of the Alaska Senate, representing North Pole and other communities in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. First elected to the Alaska House of Representatives in 1998, he was appointed to his Senate seat in 2009 and was the Senate's majority leader from 2013 to 2016. During his Senate tenure, he served as Rules Committee chairman. In 2020, he lost re-election by 14 votes to fellow Republican Robert Myers Jr., who defeated him in the state's Republican primary election.
Anna MacKinnon is an American Republican politician who is formerly a member of the Alaska Senate, representing District G from 2013 to 2018. Prior to that, she served in the Alaska House of Representatives, representing the 17th district, from 2007 to 2013. In the 26th Alaska State Legislature, she was a member of the House Finance Committee, and chair of the Education & Early Development, Labor & Workforce Development and the University Of Alaska Finance Subcommittees. She also represented Eagle River and Chugiak on the Anchorage Assembly from 1999 until being elected to the House. She was elected to each of these offices by defeating an incumbent in the election; her Assembly victory was over incumbent Ted Carlson, better known as the Anchorage police officer who arrested actor Steve McQueen in 1972. Her House victory came in the 2006 primary over incumbent Pete Kott, who by that point was involved in what became known as the Alaska political corruption probe, and who was later sentenced to federal prison. The probe also saw other longtime legislators leave office. Her Senate victory in 2012 came over longtime legislator Bettye Davis, who faced not only redistricting but a primary election challenge from former House member and congressional candidate Harry Crawford, whom Davis narrowly outpolled.
Craig W. Johnson is an American politician who serves as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives. He originally served from 2007 to 2017 and began another term in 2023.
Warren Wayne Matthews Jr. is an American lawyer and jurist who was a justice of the Alaska Supreme Court from 1977 to 2009. Matthews served as the 8th and 12th chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court. His service from May 1977 to April 2009 makes him the second-longest serving justice in Alaska history, slightly less than that of Jay Rabinowitz.
Tiffany Zulkosky is an American politician. She has served in the Alaska House of Representatives from District 38 since March 2018. Zulkosky is a Democrat and caucuses with the House Majority Caucus. In 2018, she was appointed by Governor Bill Walker and unanimously approved by House Democrats to fill the vacant seat in District 38. Zulkosky, who is Yup'ik, is the only Alaska Native woman currently serving in the Alaska Legislature.
