Linksfield Level Crossing railway station [1] or Linksfield railway station [2] served the local rural area just north of Elgin, Moray, Scotland from 1852 to 1859 on the Morayshire Railway. The line joined the Moray Coast Railway at Lossie Junction [3] and trains ran on to the old Elgin (East) railway station.
The station was opened on 10 August 1852 by the Morayshire Railway and was closed to passengers in December 1859. One reference gives its dates as 1853 to 1898 with it remaining as an unadvertised halt from 1859. The line closed to both passengers and goods traffic on 6 April 1964. [1] One reference gives goods traffic continuing on the line until 1966. [4]
Linksfield Level Crossing was a halt located about half a mile north of Lossie Junction on a single track line with one very short platform on the east side of the track. [5] In 1870 the platform was marked on the OS map lying just south of a level crossing that once stood near Maryfield and Muir of Linksfield Farms. [6] The old gatehouse for Spynie House stands opposite and the presence of the estate may have been expected to create enough passenger traffic to justify a station in 1852.
No signalling or sidings are shown on OS maps at the station, however a building is shown that may have been a shelter for the crossing keeper [6] [5] and a signal for Lossie Junction lay to the south. [3] A small square building is shown near the 1/2 mile post on the east side of the track. [7]
Nothing now remains of the station, however much of the old trackbed towards Lossiemouth can be walked. [4]

The Morayshire Railway was the first railway to be built north of Aberdeen, Scotland. It received royal assent in 1846 but construction was delayed until 1851 because of the adverse economic conditions existing in the United Kingdom. The railway was built in two phases with the section from Elgin to Lossiemouth completed in 1852. When the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway (I&AJR) reached Keith via Elgin, the Morayshire was able to complete the Speyside second phase by connecting the Craigellachie line at Orton. Initially, the Morayshire ran its own locomotives on the I&AJR track between Elgin and Orton but this was short-lived and the Morayshire carriages were then hauled to Orton by the I&AJR. Disagreements with the I&AJR eventually forced the Morayshire into constructing a new section of track between its stations at Elgin and Rothes; this was completed in 1862. The Morayshire accomplished its final enlargement by connecting to the new Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) Craigellachie station in 1863. Crippling debt forced the company into an arrangement with the GNoSR for it to assume operation of the track in 1866. By 1881, the Morayshire had greatly reduced its liabilities and its long-sought-after amalgamation with the GNoSR finally took place.
There are seventeen disused railway stations on the Cornish Main Line between Plymouth in Devon and Penzance in Cornwall, England. The remains of nine of these can be seen from passing trains. While a number of these were closed following the so-called "Beeching Axe" in the 1960s, many of them had been closed much earlier, the traffic for which they had been built failing to materialise.

The railway station was opened by the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) on its Moray Firth coast line in 1886, served by Aberdeen to Elgin trains. The village and station were originally named Nether Buckie station and the station was renamed 'Buckpool' on 1 January 1887, closing to regular passenger traffic on 7 March 1960, several years before the closure of the line itself in 1968.
Spey Bay railway station was a railway station in Spey Bay, Moray. The railway station was opened by the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) on its Moray Firth coast line in 1886, served by Aberdeen to Elgin trains. The station was originally named Fochabers-on-Spey railway station on 1 May 1886. In November 1893 it became Fochabers railway station, Fochabers and Spey Bay railway station on 1 January 1916 before finally becoming on 1 January 1918 Spey Bay railway station. It closed to regular passenger traffic on 6 May 1968 on the same date as the line itself.
Garmouth railway station was a railway station in Garmouth, parish of Urquhart, Moray. The railway station was opened by the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) on its Moray Firth coast line in 1884, served by Aberdeen to Elgin trains. It served the villages of Kingston-on-Spey and Garmouth and closed to regular passenger traffic on 6 May 1968 on the same date as the line itself.
Calcots railway station was a railway station in the parish of St Andrews-Lhanbryd, Moray. The railway station was opened by the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) on its Moray Firth coast line in 1884, served by Aberdeen to Elgin trains. It served a rural area rather than a discrete settlement and closed to regular passenger traffic on 6 May 1968 on the same date as the line itself.
Findochty railway station was a railway station in the small fishing village of Findochty, Moray about 3 miles to the east of Buckie. The railway station was opened by the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) on its Moray Firth coast line in 1886, served by Aberdeen to Elgin trains.
Tochieneal railway station was a railway station that served the small industrial village of Tochieneal, close to Cullen in Moray. The railway station was opened by the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) on its Moray Firth coast line in 1884. The station closed to regular passenger traffic on 1 October 1951, more than a decade before the total closure of the line itself in 1968.
Glassaugh railway station was a railway station that served the rural area of Glassaugh and the nearby Glenglassaugh distillery close to Portsoy in Moray. The railway station was opened by the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) on its Moray Firth coast line in 1884, served by Aberdeen to Elgin trains. The station closed to regular passenger traffic on 21 September 1953, more than a decade before the total closure of the line itself in 1968.
Golf Club House Halt railway station, also known as Banff Golf House Halt railway station was opened in 1914. The halt was located close to the town of Banff's golf club on the links. The line from Tillynaught opened in 1859 and a temporary terminus opened at Banff on 30 July 1859 and a permanent station opened in 1860. There was a single platform at the Golf Club House Halt, located on the shore side of the line and no provision for goods traffic. The OS map of 1902 shows a 'Halt' at the site of the 1914 platform without indicating any structure at the site.
Cornhill railway station was an intermediate stop situated on the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) line from Cairnie Junction to Tillynaught. There was only a single platform at Cornhill that served the nearby village that lies in Fordyce Parish, of what was once Banffshire, 8+1⁄2 miles (13.7 km) from Banff itself. The line ran to Tillynaught where it split to reach Banff by a branch line or Elgin by the Moray Coast line.
Glenbarry railway station, previously known as Barry was an intermediate stop with a passing loop situated on the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) line from Cairnie Junction to Tillynaught. There were two platforms at Glenbarry that served the nearby hamlet that lies in what was once Banffshire. The line northwards ran to Tillynaught where it split to reach Banff by a branch line or Elgin by the Moray Coast line.
Knock railway station was an intermediate stop situated on the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) line from Grange and Cairnie Junction to Tillynaught. Knock served the rural community and later the Knockdhu Distillery in Banffshire. The line northwards ran to Tillynaught where it split to reach Banff by a branch line or Elgin by the Moray Coast line.
Birchfield Platform railway station, Birchfield Halt railway station or Birchfield Siding railway station served the rural area near Glen of Rothes House, Moray, Scotland from 1871 to 1956 on the Morayshire Railway. 1884 is another suggested opening date however it contradicts the map evidence. This was an intermediate station on the Craigellachie-Elgin line of the former Great North of Scotland Railway that had originally been opened by the Morayshire Railway on 1 January 1862.
Greens of Drainie railway station served the local farms of Greens, Wester Greens, Easter Greens, etc. in the parish of Drainie, Lossiemouth area, Moray, Scotland from 1852 to 1859 on the Morayshire Railway.
Sourden railway station or Sourdon railway station later Sourden Siding served the rural area near Aikenway Castle and the Wood of Sourden, Moray, Scotland from 1858 to 1866 on the Morayshire Railway. This was an intermediate station on the Rothes-Orton line of the former Great North of Scotland Railway that had originally been opened by the Morayshire Railway in 1858. The hamlet of Newlands is located nearby on the road to Rothes.
