Lintong District, formerly Lintong County, is one of 11 urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, Northwest China. The district was approved to establish from the former Lintong County (临潼县) by the Chinese State Council on June 25, 1997. The Terracotta Army and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor was discovered in March 1974 near this district. The district borders the prefecture-level cities of Xianyang to the northwest and Weinan to the east, Gaoling County to the northeast, Baqiao District to the southeast, Lianhu and Xincheng Districts to the south, and Chang'an District to the southwest.
BPM is the call sign of the official short-wave time signal service of the People's Republic of China, operated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, broadcasting from CAS's National Time Service Center in Pucheng County, Shaanxi at 34°56′55.96″N109°32′34.93″E, roughly 70 km northeast of Lintong, along with NTSC's long-wave time signal BPL on 100 kHz.
The Lanzhou Military Region was one of seven military regions in the People's Republic of China. It directed all People's Liberation Army and People's Armed Police forces in Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, and Ngari Prefecture in northwest Tibet. It is bordered to the south by the Chengdu Military Region, and to the north by Mongolia, the Altai Republic, which is a political subdivision of the Russian Federation, and Kazakhstan. This region is now part of the Western Theater Command due to the military reforms of 2015.
Liu Zhiji (661–721), courtesy name Zixuan (子玄), was a Chinese historian and author of the Shitong born in present-day Xuzhou, Jiangsu during the Tang Dynasty. Liu's father Liu Zangqi and elder brother Liu Zhirou were officials, famous for their literary compositions. He received his Imperial Examination degree in 680, and began working on several compilations with others in the court in 699. In 708, he decided to resign himself and started compiling the Shitong.

Datong–Xi'an high-speed railway line or Daxi HSR is a dual-track, electrified, high-speed rail line operated by China Railway High-Speed between Datong, Shanxi and Xi'an, Shaanxi. It has a length of 859 km (534 mi) through the provinces of Shanxi and Shaanxi Province, traversing the north-south axis of the former, and will accommodate trains traveling at speeds up to 250 km/h (160 mph). Travel time between the two terminal cities will be reduced from 16.5 hours to about three hours. Construction began on 3 December 2009 and was expected to cost ¥96.3 billion. The line was scheduled to be completed by 2013 or 2014.
Xi'an University of Science and Technology is a university located in Xi'an. The university has a relative history, the earliest history started from the North Ocean University, which was founded in 1895. In July 1938, the Industry faculty of North Ocean University merged with Mining and Metallurgy faculty of Northwest University. In 1957, the Mining and Metallurgy faculty of Northwest was distributed to Xi'an Jiaotong University. On September 15, 1958, the Xi'an Mining Industry College was founded on the foundation of mining industry faculty and geology faculty of Xi'an Jiaotong University. The former president of China Academy of Science Guo Moro named the college. With the approval of the Education Ministry of China, the college was distributed to the Government of Shaanxi Province and the name of the college was changed to Xi'an University of Science and Technologies in June 1999.

The 47th Group Army was a group army of the People's Liberation Army It was stationed at Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi as part of the Lanzhou Military Region. It was disbanded in 2016-17, during the Chinese military reforms which had begun two years earlier.

Zhao Kangmin was a Chinese archaeologist best known for discovering and naming the Terracotta Warriors of the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, one of the most famous archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. Fragments of the warriors were initially found in 1974 by farmers digging a well, but Zhao was officially credited as the discoverer as he was the first to recognize the significance of the fragments and reconstruct them into life-size statues. He also led or participated in many other excavations and served as a longtime curator of the Lintong Museum.
