The Democratic Action Party is a centre-left social democratic political party in Malaysia. As one of four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, it formed the federal government after defeating Barisan Nasional in the 2018 Malaysian general election, ending the party's 53 year-long stay in the opposition. However, before the coalition finished its first term, defections from partnering parties caused it to lose power after 22 months, culminating in the 2020 Malaysian political crisis. At the 2022 Malaysian general election, the PH coalition which the DAP was part of was returned to power again, albeit with a smaller majority leading it to form a unity government with political rivals.
Kerk Kim Hock was a Malaysian politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Melaka from December 1999 to March 2004 and Pasir Panji from October 1990 to December 1999. He served as Member of the Malacca State Legislative Assembly for Durian Daun from August 1986 to October 1990. He also served as the 4th Secretary-General of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) from December 1999 to his retirement from politics in March 2004, DAP is a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition.
Chong Chieng Jen, is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stampin since May 2018 and Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Padungan since December 2021. He served as the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020, State Leader of the Opposition of Sarawak from June 2013 to November 2020, MP for Bandar Kuching from March 2004 to May 2018 and MLA for Kota Sentosa from May 2006 to December 2021. He is a member, National Vice-Chairman, State Chairman of Sarawak, Branch Chairman of Kuching and State Youth Advisor of Sarawak as well as Bandar Kuching of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the PH coalition.
The 2007 Machap by-election was held on 12 April 2007. The seat in the state assembly of Malacca, Malaysia, fell vacant after the incumbent, Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), died on 15 March that year. On 21 March 2007, the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) announced 3 April 2007 as the nomination day and 12 April 2007 the election date. The MCA candidate, Lai Meng Chong eventually defeated the opposition candidate of Liou Chen Kuang, with a reduced majority compared to the previous 2004 election.
Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam was a Malaysian politician, businessman and community leader of Chinese descent. Poh was born in Kampung Belimbing, near Durian Tunggal, Malacca. He and his family moved to nearby Machap Baru, where Poh in later years contributed significantly to the small town's development.
Lai Meng Chong is a Malaysian politician of Chinese descent from the town of Machap Baru in Malacca state. He is a member of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a major component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition and holds the position of vice-chairman in the MCA's Alor Gajah division. Lai is also the political secretary to the Malaysian Minister of Human Resources, MCA vice-president and MP for Alor Gajah, Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn. He was nominated as the BN's candidate in the 2007 Machap by-election.

He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Bendera from May 2013 to May 2018. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party, a component party of the PH coalition. In DAP, he served as the Assistant National Publicity Secretary from September 2013 to March 2022, State Vice Chairman of Penang since December 2013 and Parliamentary Spokesperson of Education, Science and Technology. He is the son of Khir Johari, former federal minister and prominent politician from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Alliance.
Datuk Wira Koh Nai Kwong is a Malaysian politician and lawyer who has served as the Senator since December 2020. He served as Member of the Melaka State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Barisan Nasional (BN) state administration under former Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam from 2007 to 2008, Member of Parliament (MP) for Alor Gajah from May 2013 to May 2018 and Member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kesidang from March 2004 to March 2008. He is a member of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a component party of the BN coalition. He is the State Deputy Chairman of MCA of Melaka, was the State Legal Advisor to BN of Melaka from 2006 to 2011 and the Division Chief of MCA of Bukit Katil.
The Alliance of Hope is a Malaysian political coalition consisting of centre-left political parties which was formed in 2015 to succeed the Pakatan Rakyat coalition. It has been the ruling coalition since November 2022 after it formed the coalition government with other political coalitions and parties as a result of the 2022 Malaysian general election, and after it won the 2018 Malaysian general election to February 2020 when it lost power as a result of the 2020 Malaysian political crisis at the federal level for 22 months. The coalition deposed the Barisan Nasional coalition government during the 2018 election, ending its 60-year-long reign since independence.

He is a member of the Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (GERAKAN), a component party of presently the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and formerly BN coalition. He also served as the 5th President of GERAKAN from October 2013 to September 2018.
Howard Lee Chuan How is a Malaysian politician, activist and chef who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ipoh Timor since November 2022. He served as Member of the Perak State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration under former Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH state administration in March 2020 and Member of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pasir Pinji from May 2013 to November 2022. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the PH coalition. In DAP, he served as Youth Chief or known as Chief of the DAP youth wing namely Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) from December 2018 to March 2022 while in PH, he served as its 4th Youth Chief from September 2021 to July 2022 and previously served as its Deputy Youth Chief. He was the 24th President of International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY).
The 14th Malacca election was held on 9 May 2018 to elect the State Assemblymen of the 14th Malacca State Legislative Assembly, the legislature of the Malaysian state of Malacca. The Malacca State Legislative Assembly dissolved on 7 April 2018 by the Head of State on the advice of the Head of Government.
Tey Kok Kiew is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Melaka State Executive Council (EXCO) in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration under former Chief Minister Adly Zahari from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH state administration in March 2020 as well as Member of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bandar Hilir from March 2008 to November 2021. He is a member from Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the PH coalition. He has served as State Chairman of DAP of Melaka for the second term since January 2023 and served the first term from December 2015 to his resignation in November 2021 following a huge defeat of DAP in the 2021 Melaka state election.
The 2021 Malacca state election, formally the 15th Malacca state election, took place on 20 November 2021. This election was to elect 28 members of the 15th Malacca State Legislative Assembly. The previous assembly was dissolved on 4 October 2021.
