Liquid Force is a manufacturer of wakeboarding, wakesurfing, wake foiling, and other wake related products based in the United States. Liquid Force is one of the leading manufacturers in the wakeboard related products and focused on relentless innovation as its mantra. [1] Besides manufacturing, the Liquid Force sponsors numerous events and athletes to grow and promote the sport. [2] Liquid Force was founded in 1995 by Tony Finn and Jimmy Redmon, both pioneers in the sport of wakeboarding. Its headquarters are located in Carlsbad, California. [1] [3]

History

1985–1994

In 1985 the future founders of Liquid Force Tony Finn and Jimmy Redmon separately looked for alternatives to waterskiing and surfing. Tony Finn created the so-called "skurfer" which had a similar shape to a surfboard but was much shorter. At the same time Jimmy Redmon came up with a water ski board which was produced by his own company Redline Designs. On contrary to the "skurfer" the water ski board was a bit lighter and the first to have foot straps. [4] Founding the World Wakeboard Association (WWA), a governing body for the sport, Redmon created several contests, where Finn worked as an announcer resulting in the two crossing paths several times. [1]

1991 Waketech

Being rivals at first they soon became aware of each other's strengths which led to the establishment of their own firm, Waketech, with the help of an investor. In 1993 Waketech produced the Flight 69, the first twin-tip board with a symmetrical design, an innovation on the wakeboard market allowing riders to ride with either their left or right foot forward. Hence the new design was superior to the one pointed tip boards resulting in their team riders claiming titles at a wakeboard contest. In spite of their influence changing the sport of wakeboarding, Tony Finn and Jimmy Redmon had to deal with a setback. They had trouble with their investor and the two faced the end of Waketech. [4]

1995 - present Liquid Force

In 1995 three weeks before the World Championships Finn and Redmon founded a new firm called Liquid Force. Just in time for the Championships the two were able to present their new brand for the first time to the public by providing their team riders with Liquid Force Wakeboards and outfits . The company has won the WSIA Manufacturer of the Year award in 2005 and 2008. [1] [4] In 2008 Liquid Force bought Straight Line manufacturer of wakeboard and water ski ropes from the Yoshida Group. [5]

Sponsorship

Liquid Force is an active international sports and events sponsor. In order to promote the sport Liquid Force sponsors a variety of initiatives throughout the year for example The Monster Energy Triple Crown and others. [6] Furthermore the company is constantly increasing its team of riders from countries all over the world such as USA, Germany, Argentina and Thailand. [7] [8]

Besides sponsoring numerous initiatives, Liquid Force has been starting to launch its own events. Its main events are BROstock, BBQ BROdown and the Free For All Cable Tour, which is taking place in several cable park locations in the nation where people can learn to wakeboard for free. Shaun Murray is an American four-time World champion wakeboarder, and the main character featured in Activision O2's video game Wakeboarding Unleashed Featuring Shaun Murray developed by Shaba Games and released on June 3, 2003 for PlayStation 2, Xbox and Game Boy Advance. A PC port was developed by Beenox and published by Aspyr, releasing on December 22, 2003. A playable demo version of the game was available in the Options menu for the PlayStation 2 version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Cable skiing</span>

Cable skiing is a way to water ski, in which the skier's rope and handle are pulled by an electrically-driven cable, whereas traditionally a waterskier is pulled by a motorboat. The mechanism consists of two cables running parallel to one another with carriers between them every 80 metres. The carriers are metal tubes that can hook up tow ropes with riders. Tow ropes are detached and attached at the same time without slowing the system down, which is a main reason for its high efficiency. With a main cable of 800 metres long, 10 riders can waterski or wakeboard at the same time. The speed of the main cable can be up to 38 mph (61 km/h), and slalom skiers can reach much higher speeds. The most common speed is 19 mph (31 km/h), which suits wakeboarders best.

Skurfing is a towed water sport similar to waterskiing, in that an individual is pulled behind a boat on a tow rope. However, instead of water skis, the sport uses a skurfboard which is a floating platform the user balances on, similar to a surfboard, but typically much shorter, with two foot-straps that prevent falling off the board and three fins positioned on the bottom that make it easier to maneuver when the board is being towed. The word itself is a portmanteau of skiing and surfing. Skurfing is often considered the precursor to wakeboarding.

Wakesurfing is a water sport in which a rider trails behind a boat, riding the boat's wake without being directly pulled by the boat. After getting up on the wake, typically by use of a tow rope, the wakesurfers will drop the rope, and ride the steep face below the wave's peak in a fashion reminiscent of surfing. Wakesurfers generally use special boards, designed specifically for wakes.

Owned by parent company, Correct Craft, Nautique is a member of the oldest family-owned and operated boat manufacturer in the world.

Zane Schwenk is a professional Wakeboarder. He now lives in Winter Haven, Florida. He started professional wakeboarding in 1993 and is still active in the sport today. 2008 marked his 15th year as a Professional, he has also competed in the X Games. He is host of the MasterCraft Video series Rewind. Schwenk also has his own line of CWB wakeboards, the Absolute. Schwenk's sponsors include: CWB Wakeboards, Proline Ropes & Handles, MasterCraft Boats, Spy Optics, Rusty Clothing.

Paulie Koch is an American world champion wakeboarder. In 2010 he rose to the top of the wakeboarding world when won the Under 13 Boys 2010 Rockstar WWA Wakeboard World Championships at the age of 13. Paulie started wakeboarding at the age of 5. That same year he started competing in local INT events. Paulie went on to become the 2004 New England Regional Champion and was invited to represent New England at the 2004 INT National Championships. That year he won his first major title, "2004 Mini Outlaw INT National Champion".
