Lis Jeppesen (born 1956) is a Danish ballet dancer who began to dance for the Royal Danish Ballet in 1974, becoming a soloist in 1980. She has frequently been acclaimed in the title role of Giselle and has taken leading roles in Bournonville's A Folk Tale , La Sylphide and Napoli . She completed her dancing career in 1998 but has continued to take character roles. [1] [2]
Born in the Vanløse district of Copenhagen on 5 April 1956, Lis Jeppesen is the daughter of the merchant Helvinn Emil Schørring J. (1915–75) and Alice Gunna Johansen (born 1919). From an early age she demonstrated her talents as a dancer, taking the role of Columbine in the Tivoli Concert Hall when she was only six years old. She entered the Royal Danish Ballet School in 1963, joined the company in 1974 and became a solo dancer in 1980. [1] [2]
Her first important role was in 1974 when, just 17, she performed in Rudi van Dantzig's Monument for a Dead Boy. Politiken's critic Ebbe Mørk welcomed her "strong and sharp" performance. In 1977, she took the role of Clara in Flemming Flindt's The Nutcracker , impressing the audience with her large lively eyes. [1]
In 1979, Jeppesen starred in two major roles, taking the title roles in Erik Bruhn's Giselle and in Bounonville's La Sylphide. The following year, she was promoted to the rank of soloist, taking on a series of key roles in the 1980s, including Teresina in Napoli , Svanilda in Coppelia and Elenora in The Kermesse in Bruges . [1] Following a New York performance in June 1982, her Swanilda received special acclaim from Anna Kisselgoff of The New York Times who commented on her "tenderness and charm simply not see anywhere else" and her "puffed-cheek and wide-eyed hilarity". [3]
On 26 September 1987, Jeppesen married Jan Boris Pedersen with whom she has two children: Amalie (1987) and Mathilde (1994). In 1998, she retired from active dancing after performing for 26 years. She has since been employed as a character dancer and coach. [1] [2]
In addition to earlier awards, in 1989 Jeppesen was honoured as a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog. [1]

Thomas Lund is the head master of The Royal Danish School of Ballet in Copenhagen. Lund admitted to The Royal Danish School of Ballet in 1986 aged 11. He became apprentice in 1991, member of the corps de ballet of The Royal Danish Ballet in 1993, soloist in 1996 and was appointed principal dancer in 2000. In September 2012 Lund retired as a Principal Dancer to become the head master of The Royal Danish School of Ballet He held that position until June 2022.

Georgina Parkinson was an English ballet dancer and ballet mistress. She joined The Royal Ballet in 1957 and was promoted to principal dancer in 1962. Best known for dancing 20th-century works, she was a frequent collaborator of choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, and had also created roles for Frederick Ashton. In 1978, she accepted the invitation to become a ballet mistress at the American Ballet Theatre for a year, before assuming the position permanently in 1980. She also performed character roles with the American Ballet Theatre.

She then started teaching and staging ballets across the world. Between 2016 and 2022, she was the artistic director of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, the affiliated school of ABT.
Anna Lærkesen was a Danish ballet dancer who was a soloist at the Royal Danish Ballet. She had her debut at the theatre in the Bournonville version of La Sylphide as the first sylph (1959). She was appointed soloist in 1964 and was promoted to 1st female soloist two years later, a title that had until then only been bestowed upon Margot Lander. After long periods of illness, she was dismissed from service shortly before her 25th anniversary where she would have appeared in a production of Livjægerne på Amager in which she would have portrayed the character of Louise.

Valborg Bodil Emilie Borchsenius née Jørgensen, also Valborg Guldbrandsen, (1872–1949) was a Danish ballet dancer and instructor who performed in Bournonville's productions at the Royal Danish Theatre from 1888. As a soloist she is also remembered as Swanhilda in Coppélia, a role she performed 128 times to wide acclaim. She became the company's star ballerina until her retirement in 1918.
Gerda Elisabeth Karstens was a Danish ballet dancer with the Royal Danish Theatre where she became a soloist in 1942. She is remembered in particular for her interpretations of Madge in Bournonville's La Sylphide and the headmistress in David Lichine's Graduation Ball. She performed these two roles during her retirement evening in 1956, after which she spent several years teaching mime.
