Since its founding in 1968, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, helped the club financially and gave the founders the first club headquarters, became club Honorary President on 13 November 1974. [1] The first board of directors of the club was formed after the merger under the chairmanship Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri in 1974. [2] On 21 May 1975, Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan was elected Chairman of Board of Directors. Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan became president of Al Ain on 19 January 1979.

Hamdan bin Zayed, was elected vice chairman of board of directors in 18 March 1983 until he resigned in 2 May 1984 after he was selected as president of the UAEFA in the same period.

Year of Zayed was observed throughout 2018 in the United Arab Emirates to celebrate the centenary birth anniversary of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, the tribal leader and politician who founded the United Arab Emirates in 1971 and served as its inaugural president until his death in 2004. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, his son and the-then president issued directives in 2017 that designated the consecutive year in honor of his legacy. It was held under four main themes, namely wisdom, respect, sustainability and human development.
