The television series Ghost Writer ran for 25 episodes and was broadcast on TVB Jade in the second line series. The synopsis is according to Singapore's MediaCorp Channel 8's synopsis, with little name alterations.

Po Chung-Ling is unable to cry after birth. At the critical moment, a fox kicks down some tiles from the roof. This scares Chung-Ling to tears and thus saves his life.

After becoming a fox spirit, Siu-Tsui, follows her grandfather, Ling Wu Gat-Cheung, back to visit her benefactor. Meanwhile, Chung-Ling meets the female worker, Lau Sum-Yu, at the printing house.

Sum-Yu's elder sister Sum-Yin is missing. She comes to Jinan for investigation. Sum-Yu believes that Chung-Ling is the unfaithful man who hurts Sum-Yin. She tries to question him. However, Chung-Ling chooses not to answer.

Sum-Yu recognizes that the dead woman is her sister. She is heartbroken and she believes that Bak-Ling is the murderer. Constable Ko Jit questions Bak-Ling but finds no evidence.

Sum-Yu insists on fighting for Sum-Yin. Sum-Yin tries to stop her. Ko Jit finds it suspicious. Ko Jit tells Chung-Ling that Sum-Yin used to work at the brothel. He believes that something else has happened.

Bak-Ling is sentenced to death and he will be executed after autumn. Chung-Ling tries to bring Sum-Yin to the court but he fails and is punished. Chung-Ling is upset with Sum-Yin for failing to court. Sum-Yin tells him the reason why.

The murderer admits his sin and Sum-Yu is mad with him. Ko Jit wants to reveal the truth to the public but is stopped by others. Sum-Yin's spirit is ready to leave. Chui Jung-Man comes to say goodbye to her with her tablet. Ko Jit is deeply touched by their love.

Sum-Yu wonders why Hok-ling's condition fluctuates a lot so she tries to check out his mother's health condition as well. She believes that Hok-ling's mother didn't eat well during her pregnancy.

Sum-Yu feels sad about her miserable life after seeing Chung-Ling with his happy family. Chung-Ling consoles her by flying kite with her. Sum-Yu and Chung-Ling both have feelings for each other but they are shy to reveal their feelings.

Chung-Ling brings Siu-Tsui to the printing house for research. Po Poon finds Siu-Tsui drawing a person's portrait. He scolds Siu-Tsui and Chung-Ling angrily for it is not allowed to include a person's portrait in the New Year's print.

Chung-Ling is sad when he learns that Sum-Yu wants to return to her hometown. Siu-Tsui tries to enter Chung-Ling's dream and persuades him to cherish Sum-Yu. Sum-Yu is happy to know that Chung-Ling cares for her a lot.

Siu-Tsui chases the Taoist priest away when she finds him very unskillful. However, the others discover that the gold is actually transformed from stones. They believe that Siu-Tsui is a liar and want to send her to court. Luckily, Gat-Cheung comes to her rescue.

Chung-Ling refuses to hide as he wants to point out the mistakes of all government officials at the court. Po Poon slaps him on the face angrily and he suddenly vomits blood. Wing-Han knows that Po Poon cares for Chung-Ling a lot and she begs Chung-Ling to leave.

Siu-Tsui plays tricks to let Chung-Ling's soul enter the court. Siu-Tsui brings Chung-Ling's soul to visit his father with Wing-Han at the prison. Chung-Ling is heartbroken to see Po Poon looking much older and seriously ill.

Po Poon is unable to see Chung-Ling's soul. He reveals to Wing-Han all the misunderstandings between him and Chung-Ling in the past. Chung-Ling finally realizes his father's difficulties.

With Sum-Yu's encouragement, Ko Jit returns to work as a constable. Many villagers are believed to have been possessed. Ngai Chung appoints Jit to investigate the case.

Po Poon returns to the workshop to draw a painting for Chung-Ling before his death. Chung-Ling arrives and Po Poon encourages him to achieve an official rank. Po Poon dies with his family by his side.

Ko Jit recovers gradually under Sum-Yu's care. Encouraged by his mother, Ko Jit proposes to Sum-Yu at the inn and announces their marriage to everybody. Chung-Ling is sad.

Ko Jit hits Songling angrily as he thinks that Chung-Ling has betrayed him. Sum-Yu tries to stop Ko Jit and she returns the golden bracelet to him. Chung-Ling studies hard for the upcoming government examinations so as to fulfill his promise to Pu Pan.

Chun-to dies in the dye vat of the workshop. Ko Jit investigates the case. Bak-Ling says that his wife is unlikely to be the murderer as she has already allowed him to marry Chun-to as his concubine. He also has a time witness.

Sum-Yu is unhappy about what happened between Chung-Ling and Siu-Tsui in the garden. Chung-Ling proposes to Sum-Yu in the public as he wants to show his love for her.

Sum-Yu tails Siu-Tsui to the Fox Deity Temple when she finds Siu-Tsui's behavior fishy. Sum-Yu is shocked to see Siu-Tsui cut herself in order to save the Nine-Tailed Fox. Tsui also turns into a fox afterwards.

Siu-Tsui enters Sum-Yu's dream, in a bid to make Sum-Yu understand how she feels. On the contrary however, Sum-Yu thinks that Siu-Tsui is going to harm Chung-Ling's family.

In episode 24, Siu-Tsui tells Chung-Ling that Sum-Yu has already died when she sees how much Chung-Ling misses Sum-Yu. She even lends her body to Sum-Yu so that the two lovers can see each other. In episode 25, Chung-Ling demands for redress. With the help of Siu-Tsui, Sum-Yu appears at the court to testify against Ko Jit. Ko Jit accuses Chung-Ling of conspiring with a spirit to slander him. Meanwhile, Chung-Ling's mother appears with Sum-Yu's dead body……
