List of Miami Hurricanes men's basketball head coaches

The Miami Hurricanes men's basketball represent the University of Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference in Division I of the NCAA. They have played their home games at the BankUnited Center since 2003. The program's first squad played in 1926. [1] From 1971 through 1985, the men's basketball program was suspended due to lack of adequate funding. [2] The program reached has reached the NCAA Tournament seven times, most recently in 2013.

Overall, there have been 12 head coaches for the Miami Hurricanes, five since the revival of the program in 1985 with Bill Foster. Bruce Hale, who led the Hurricanes to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1960, is the school's all-time leader in games coached and wins. Leonard Hamilton was named UPI National Coach of the Year in 1995. Jim Larrañaga is the current coach of the Hurricanes and was named the AP Coach of the Year in 2013. [3]

Prior to head coaching, he was the defensive coordinator for the Virginia Cavaliers from 2001 to 2005. The Atlantic Coast Conference men's basketball Coach of the Year is a basketball award given to head coaches in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The award is granted to the head coach voted to be the most successful that season by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association, and since the 2012–13 season has also been awarded in separate voting by the league's coaches. The award was first given following the 1953–54 season, the first year of the conference's existence, to Everett Case of NC State. The Lamar Cardinals basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The Cardinals currently play in the Southland Conference following a return from the Western Athletic Conference on July 11, 2022. They were one of four programs, all from Texas, that left the Southland Conference on July 1, 2021, to join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Lamar left the Southland Conference for the second time, having initially joined at the league's formation in 1963, left in 1987, and returned in 1999. After one season in the WAC, Lamar returned to the Southland Conference. The Cardinals have played home games in the Montagne Center since 1984. The Lamar University basketball team is one of the school's most storied athletic programs. The Cardinals have competed in NCAA Tournament play eleven times and six times at the NCAA Division I level with the most recent appearance in the 2012 tournament. The 1979–80 team was one of the 1980 tournament's Sweet Sixteen teams. The Cardinals have also competed in four NIT tournaments. He was hired in 2012 to succeed Seth Greenberg, on whose staff Johnson had worked until leaving for Clemson, only to be hired back 12 days later. Johnson was fired by Virginia Tech on March 17, 2014 after two seasons with an overall record of 22–41.

They finished the season 22–10, 11–7 in ACC play to finish in a four-way tie for third place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament to North Carolina. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the first round to Loyola–Chicago.

The Hurricanes, led by eighth-year head coach Leonard Hamilton, played their home games at the Miami Arena and were members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 18–10, 11–7 in Big East play to finish in second place in the Big East 7 division. They lost in the second round of the 1998 Big East men's basketball tournament to St. John's. They were invited to the 1998 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament where they fell in the opening round to UCLA. This just the program's second overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 1960.
