The NCHC Offensive Defenseman of the Year is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular season to the best defenseman in the conference as voted by the coaches of each NCHC team. [1]
The Offensive Defenseman of the Year was first awarded in 2014 and is a successor to the CCHA Best Defensive Defenseman which was discontinued after the conference dissolved due to the 2013–14 NCAA conference realignment. [2] [3] [4]

Matthew John Hunwick is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played for the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hunwick was born in Warren, Michigan, but grew up in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Matt is the older brother of Shawn Hunwick.
The Miami RedHawks men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. The RedHawks are a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), starting play in the conference in the conference's 2013–14 inaugural season. Prior to the NCHC, from 1980 to 2013, the RedHawks were a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). They play in Steve Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center.

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) is an NCAA men's division I hockey conference formed on July 9, 2011. The league began playing for the 2013–14 season, the same season that the Big Ten Conference began competition, as a combination of six previous members of the WCHA and two of the CCHA. The league is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Josh Fenton has served as conference commissioner since July 1, 2013.

He was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the second round, 45th overall, in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. While playing with the Minnesota–Duluth Bulldogs, Perunovich was named to the AHCA East First-Team All-American, the NCHC First All-Conference Team, All-Tournament Team, NCHC All-Rookie team, NCHC Offensive Defenseman of the Year, and NCHC Rookie of the Year.
