List of New Zealand rugby sevens internationals

This is a list of New Zealand rugby union players who have played for the New Zealand national rugby sevens team. The team is one of the most successful rugby sevens teams of all time.[ citation needed ] The team was coached for many years by Gordon Tietjens. As of 26 November 2011, 37 of these players have gone on to be All Blacks. [1] The side has won 4 Gold Medals and were undefeated in the Commonwealth Games until 2014.

The New Zealand Kiwis are currently second in the IRL World Rankings. Since the 1980s, most New Zealand representatives have been based overseas, in the professional National Rugby League and Super League competitions. Before that, players were selected entirely from clubs in domestic New Zealand leagues.

Eric James Rush is a New Zealand former rugby union footballer and rugby sevens legend, and now a supermarket owner. His New Zealand Sevens career began in 1988 and ran until past his 39th birthday in 2004. Rush played in more than 60 tournaments, with the highlights being two Commonwealth Games gold medals and the World Cup Sevens victory in 2001. He was also voted Best and Fairest Player at the 1991 Hong Kong Sevens.

Sir Gordon Frederick Tietjens is head coach of the Samoa rugby sevens team, and a celebrated former coach of the New Zealand men's national team in rugby sevens, the All Blacks Sevens. When the International Rugby Board inducted him into the IRB Hall of Fame in May 2012, it said that "Tietjens' roll of honour is without peer in Sevens, and perhaps in the game of rugby as a whole." According to Spiro Zavos, Tietjens is "The greatest of all the Sevens coaches".

Peter Robert Tyler Thorburn was a New Zealand rugby union player and coach. He played his entire career as a number eight for Auckland from 1965 to 1970. He became a coach after his playing career ended, coaching domestically at first for North Harbour and the New Zealand national rugby sevens team. He later coached in England with Bristol Rugby from 2001 to 2003, before becoming interim head coach of the United States national rugby union team and guiding the side to the 2007 Rugby World Cup. He was also a selector for the All Blacks.

Declan O'Donnell is a New Zealand international rugby sevens player. He made his World Series debut in the 2010–11 season, and became an overnight sensation after he scored three tries for New Zealand during the final of the 2011 Wellington Sevens against England. O'Donnell made his Super Rugby debut for the Chiefs in 2012, but was delisted at the end of the season, and joined the Dunedin-based Highlanders in 2013.

Jackson Tamati Ormond is a New Zealand rugby union player. He plays in the wing position for the provincial Mitre 10 Cup side, Taranaki. He has also represented New Zealand in sevens rugby since 2010.

Lolagi Visinia is a rugby union player, who currently plays as a wing or fullback for Auckland in New Zealand's domestic National Provincial Championship competition. He was born and raised in New Zealand, but has represented both New Zealand and Manu Samoa internationally.

Frank Halai is a Tongan rugby union player who plays as a winger for the Austin Gilgronis in Major League Rugby (MLR).

Kane Sinclair Barrett is a retired New Zealand rugby union player. As former captain, domestically he represented Taranaki in the ITM Cup. Barrett made his Taranaki debut in 2010 and his strong performances saw him named in the Blues squad for the 2013 and 2014 Super Rugby seasons. He had international experience as well with the New Zealand Secondary Schools side. Barrett retired in 2014 due to ongoing concussion problems.

Belgium Tuatagaloa is a rugby union player who has represented the New Zealand Sevens team, in 2012 and 2013, and Samoa in sevens 2015-2017 and in fifteens from 2019. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, he qualifies for Samoa through heritage. He has played for Canterbury in the ITM Cup and for Valence Romans Rugby in France's Fédérale 1, the third division. He currently plays for Rouen in the Pro D2. He has also played for London Irish and in 2022 played for Racing 92 in the Supersevens Tournament where he was named in the tournament team.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Clark Laidlaw</span> Rugby player

Clark Laidlaw is a Scottish professional rugby union coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the Hurricanes. Laidlaw was formerly the All Blacks Sevens Head Coach before stepping down in 2023.
