The Zaildar was the officer in charge of a Zail, a revenue and administrative unit in the colonial rural administration of Punjab in British India. [1] [2] [ obsolete source ] , comprising between two and forty villages.[ citation needed ]
Sardar Joginder Singh was zaildar of 37 villages in shahabad Markanada. He was belongs to Batth caste of Jatsikh. His parents cameFrom from Amritsar District after fall of Sikh Empire and came in Karnal were they hold the land as a “Jagir” when Maharaja Ranjit Singh won the battle of Thanesar and took control of Karnal area. Later on, because of treaty with British Authorities the land came in the administration of British India.
Bidhwan Jaglan Zail (बिधवान जागलान ज़ैल) was headquartered in the Bidhwan (बिधवान) village and ruled by the Jaglan clan.[ citation needed ] It covered four villages in Erstwhile Loharu State in the Hisar district. These villages, Bidhwan, Kalali (कलाली), Mandholi Khurd (मंढोली खुर्द) and Siwach lie in Bhiwani district. The Zail and Zaildar systems were abolished in 1952, [3] and the Jaglan family now continues as Lambardar.[ citation needed ]

Zaildar was an officer in charge of a Zail which was an administrative unit of group of villages during the Sikh Empire, British Indian Empire in Punjab and Dogra dynasty rule in Jammu and Kashmir. The Settlement Officer, with the advice of the Deputy Commissioner, was responsible for appointing Zaildars from amongst the men of the tribe or the area, thus reinforcing his preexisting social authority with the official sanction as the representative of the government. Zaildars were the revenue-collecting officers also responsible for maintaining law and order. The Lambardar and Safedposh assisted the Zaildar. The Zaildar in turn assisted the Deputy Commissioner. The Zaildar was more influential than the Lambardar because a Zail included several villages.

Western Yamuna Canal is canal in river Yamuna that was dug out and renovated in 1335 CE by Firoz Shah Tughlaq. In 1750 CE, excessive silting caused it to stop flowing. The British raj undertook a three-year renovation in 1817 by Captain GR Blane of the Bengal Engineer Group. In 1832-33 Tajewala Barrage dam at Yamunanagar was also built to regulate the flow of water, and later Pathrala barrage at Dadupur,Yamuna Nagar and Somb river dam downstream of canal were constructed in 1875-76. In 1889-95 the largest branch of the canal Sirsa branch was constructed. The modern Hathni Kund Barrage was built in 1999 to handle the problem of silting to replace the older Tajewala Barrage.
