Silent Hill 2 is a 2024 survival horror game developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami Digital Entertainment. It is a remake of the 2001 video game of the same name, originally developed by Team Silent, a group within Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo (KCET). Players assume control of James Sunderland (Luke Roberts), a widower who explores the town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife, Mary Shepherd-Sunderland (Salóme Gunnarsdóttir). The remake was officially announced on October 19, 2022, 21 years after the original game's release, after a series of preceding leaks. [1] [2] It won two Most Anticipated Game awards. [3] [4]
The game was released for Windows and PlayStation 5 on October 8, 2024. [5] It received a 95% score on OpenCritic based on 125 reviews, [6] and a "generally favorable" score on the aggregator website Metacritic based on 133 reviews. [7] [8] It sold over one million copies within its first week of release, [9] and two million by January 2025. [10] The game received three nominations at the 42nd Golden Joystick Awards, including Game of the Year, [11] and five nominations at the 10th Game Awards. [12] At the 8th Steam Awards, it won Outstanding Visual Style. [13] At the 14th New York Game Awards, it won Best Remake. [14]
