Prior to the North German Confederation, there were Ambassadors to Austria from Prussia, Saxony, and Württemberg among others.
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany is in Vienna at Gauermanngasse 2-4, 1030 Wien, and the current Ambassador is Vito Cecere. [1] There are consuls located in Bregenz (the capital of Vorarlberg), Graz (the capital of Styria), Innsbruck (the capital of Tyrol), Linz (the capital of Upper Austria), and Salzburg (the capital of Salzburg). [1]

In German, its official name is Land Salzburg, to distinguish it from its eponymous capital Salzburg. For centuries, it was an independent Prince-Bishopric of the Holy Roman Empire. It borders Germany and Italy.
The Greens – The Green Alternative is a green political party in Austria. The Greens are in a coalition with the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) in the Nehammer government. Before they were part of the Schallenberg government and the Second Kurz government. It won 8.2% of votes cast in the 2024 Austrian legislative election. The current President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, is from the Green Party.
Christiane Hörbiger was an Austrian stage, film, and television actress. Her first major film role was Mary Vetsera in Kronprinz Rudolfs letzte Liebe in 1955. She appeared on the stage of the Burgtheater as Recha in Lessing's Nathan der Weise in 1959, became a member of Theater Heidelberg and later Schauspielhaus Zürich. From 1969 to 1972, she portrayed Die Buhlschaft in Hofmannsthal's Jedermann at the Salzburg Festival.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) rights in Austria have advanced significantly in the 21st century, and are now considered generally progressive. Both male and female forms of same-sex sexual activity are legal in Austria. Registered partnerships were introduced in 2010, giving same-sex couples some of the rights of marriage. Stepchild adoption was legalised in 2013, while full joint adoption was legalised by the Constitutional Court of Austria in 2016. On 5 December 2017, the Austrian Constitutional Court decided to legalise same-sex marriage, and the ruling went into effect on 1 January 2019.
The Federal Foreign Office, abbreviated AA, is the foreign ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany, a federal agency responsible for both the country's foreign policy and its relationship with the European Union. It is a cabinet-level ministry. Since December 2021, Annalena Baerbock has served as Foreign Minister, succeeding Heiko Maas. The primary seat of the ministry is at the Werderscher Markt square in the Mitte district, the historic centre of Berlin.
Guido Schmidt was an Austrian diplomat and politician, who served as Foreign Minister from 1936 to 1938.

Maria Böhmer is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Under the leadership of successive ministers Frank-Walter Steinmeier (2013-2017) and Sigmar Gabriel (2017), she served as Minister of State in the Federal Foreign Office, primarily responsible for cultural relations and education policy.
Karl-Günther von Hase was a German diplomat and Secretary of state. As head of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government, he served as spokesman of government under three chancellors. He was ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1970 to 1977. He was then Director General of the ZDF, a German public-service television broadcaster, retiring in 1982.
Heinz Westphal was a German politician, representing the SPD. From April to October 1982, he was the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and from 1983 to 1990 he was the vice-president of the German Bundestag.
Josef "Beppo" Afritsch was an Austrian horticulturalist who became a politician (SPÖ). Between 1959 and 1963 he served as the country's Interior minister.
Sven Lehmann is a German politician of Alliance 90/The Greens who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2017.
Liselotte Funcke was a German liberal politician of the Free Democratic Party (FDP). She was a member of the German Bundestag parliament from 1961 to 1979, serving as its vice president from 1969. She then was appointed state Minister of Economy in North Rhine-Westphalia, the first woman in the position. Funcke is remembered for her engagements to integrate foreigners in German society, as the Federal Commissioner for Foreigners (Ausländerbeauftragte) from 1981 to 1991, and afterwards.
Andreas Michaelis is a German diplomat who served as State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office in the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz since 3 January 2022, and was previously the German Ambassador to the Court of St James from May 2020 until January 2022. Since August 2023, he has been the German Ambassador to the United States.
Knut Otto Christian Hans Konstantin Hubertus von Kühlmann-Stumm, was a German politician for the Free Democratic Party who owned Ramholz Castle.
Beate Grzeski is a German diplomat. She has been Ambassador of Germany to Australia since September 2023 and as such heads the German Embassy in Canberra.
