Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Thero

Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Thero was a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk who was one of the most distinguished scholars and expositors of Theravada Buddhism in the twentieth century. He was highly respected by Sri Lankan Buddhists, who believed that he had achieved a higher level of spiritual development. Sri Lankan Buddhists also considered Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Thero as a Bodhisattva, who will attain Buddhahood in a future life.

Ananda Samarakoon Sri Lankan musician

Egodahage George Wilfred Alwis Samarakoon known as Ananda Samarakoon was a Sri Lankan (Sinhalese) composer and musician. He composed the Sri Lankan national anthem "Namo Namo Matha" and is considered the father of artistic Sinhala music and founder of the modern Sri Lankan Sinhala Geeta Sahitya. He committed suicide in 1962, possibly driven by unauthorized changes to lyrics in a composition.

Bathiya and Santhush Sri Lankan hip hop duo

Bathiya & Santhush, also known as BNS, are a Sri Lankan pop duo consisting of Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman, who met while at the "Mary Anne David School of Vocal Music" in Colombo. They both were born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They have been one of the most commercially successful music acts in Sri Lanka in the last two decades.

President's Counsel is an eminent lawyer who is appointed by the President of Sri Lanka to be one of the "President's Counsel learned in the law". The term is also recognized as an honorific which replaced the practice of appointment of Queen's Counsel (QC) which ceased when Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972. Ranasinghe Hettiarachchige Tudor Edward Ranasinghe Gunasekara, known as Tudor Gunasekara, was a Sri Lankan politician and diplomat. He was a Member of Parliament, District Minister for Gampaha in President JR Jayawardene's government. Later, he served as the first Sri Lanka ambassador to Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary.

Vice Admiral A. H. Asoka de Silva, VSV, ndc, psc, SLN was the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy from 1983 to 1986. He was a Sri Lankan Ambassador to Cuba.

Rupa Karunathilake

Lokugamage Rupasena Karunathilake was a cabinet minister and Member of Parliament representing Bentara-Elpitiya electorate, in Galle District. He was also a Sri Lanka Ambassador to the Netherlands. He was educated at Ananda Vidyalaya, Elpitiya, Mahinda College, Galle and Nalanda College Colombo. His youngest son Sanjeev now Southern Provincial Council Member.

Ananda W. P. Guruge

Ananda Wahihana Palliya Guruge, known as Ananda W.P. Guruge, was a Sri Lankan diplomat, Buddhist scholar and writer. Guruge was the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to UNESCO, France, and United States during the period from 1985 to 1994. Guruge was adjunct professor of Religious Studies at Cal State Fullerton and was the dean of academic affairs at University of the West.

The Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Canada is the Sri Lankan envoy to Canada. Countries belonging to the Commonwealth of Nations typically exchange High Commissioners, rather than Ambassadors. Robert Gunawardena Sri Lankan politician and diplomat (1904-1971)

Don Benjamin Rupasinghe Gunawardena, popularly as Robert Gunawardena, was a Sri Lankan Marxist politician and diplomat. He was one of the founders of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party, which was the first political party in Sri Lanka, and served as the long time MP for Kotte. He was the leader of the Suriya-Mal Movement and served as ambassador to China between 1965 and 1970.

In March 2017 President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena awarded national honours to 90 individuals for distinguished services. It was the first time in twelve years that awards were given out and there were 426 applicants. The awards ceremony was held on 20 March 2017 at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo.
