The amphibians of Crete are represented by four species, ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]} of which the Cretan frog is endemic to the island. ^[5] In the 1990s, the presence of the bullfrog was recorded in the area around lake Agia, an invasive exotic species whose eradication has been recommended by environmental authorities. ^{[6] [7]}
