The Yangtze, Yangzi, or officially Chang Jiang is the longest river in Asia, the third-longest in the world and the longest in the world to flow entirely within one country. It rises at Jari Hill in the Tanggula Mountains and flows 6,300 km (3,900 mi) in a generally easterly direction to the East China Sea. It is the seventh-largest river by discharge volume in the world. Its drainage basin comprises one-fifth of the land area of China, and is home to nearly one-third of the country's population.
Nanjing, alternately romanized as Nanking, is the capital of Jiangsu province of the People's Republic of China, a sub-provincial city, a megacity and the second largest city in the East China region. With 11 districts, Nanjing, which is located in southwestern Jiangsu, has an administrative area of 6,600 km2 (2,500 sq mi) and a total recorded population of 9,314,685 as of 2020. Nevertheless, its built-up area encompassing 9 Nanjing urban Districts and Huashan and Yushan Districts and Dangtu County in Maanshan City, largely being agglomerated, was home to 9,648,136 inhabitants. In a very few years, Jurong District in Zhenjiang and Jiujiang, Jinghu and Yijiang Districts in Wuhu will also be conurbated leading to a tri-city built-up area of 11,910,201 inhabitants.
Zhenjiang, alternately romanized as Chinkiang, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province, China. It lies on the southern bank of the Yangtze River near its intersection with the Grand Canal. It is opposite Yangzhou and between Nanjing and Changzhou. Zhenjiang was formerly the provincial capital of Jiangsu and remains as an important transportation hub. As of the 2020 census, its total population was 3,210,418 inhabitants whom 1,266,790 lived in the built-up area made of the 3 urban districts. The town is best known both in China and abroad for its fragrant black vinegar, a staple of Chinese cooking.
The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, was First Nanjing Yangtze Bridge, is a double-decked road-rail truss bridge across the Yangtze River in Nanjing, Jiangsu, connecting the city's Pukou and Gulou districts. Its upper deck is part of China National Highway 104, spanning 4,588 metres (15,052 ft). Its lower deck, with a double-track railway, is 6,772 metres (22,218 ft) long, and completes the Beijing–Shanghai railway, which had been divided by the Yangtze for decades. Its right bridge consists of nine piers, with the maximum span of 160 metres (525 ft) and the total length of 1,576 metres (5,171 ft). The bridge carries approximately 80,000 vehicles and 190 trains per day.

The bridges and tunnels across the Yangtze River carry rail and road traffic across China's longest and largest river and form a vital part of the country's transportation infrastructure. The river bisects China proper from west to east, and every major north-south bound highway and railway must cross the Yangtze. Large urban centers along the river such as Chongqing, Wuhan, and Nanjing also have urban mass transit rail lines crossing the Yangtze.
The Nanjing Dashengguan Yangtze River Bridge, was Third Nanjing Yangtze Bridge, is the first cable-stayed bridge with steel tower stanchions located in Nanjing, China. It is the third crossing of the Yangtze River at Nanjing. The cable-stayed portion is just a part of the 4.7 kilometers of the complete bridge. Constructed in slightly more than two years at a cost of $490 million, this bridge features dual 215 meters towers. The main span measures 648 meters. When it was completed in 2005 it was the third longest cable stayed span in the world. It still ranks among the top 20. The bridge carries the G42 Shanghai–Chengdu Expressway and the G2503 Nanjing Ring Expressway. The bridge has renamed on 20 December 2019.

The Nanjing–Anqing intercity railway is a high-speed rail, passenger-dedicated line between cities of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province and Anqing, Anhui Province, in China. Construction of the 258-kilometre (160 mi) railway began in January 2010, and the line was opened on 6 December 2015.

The Nanjing Yingtian Avenue Yangtze River Tunnel, formerly Nanjing Yangtze River Tunnel, is a tunnel under the Yangtze River in Nanjing, China. The tunnel connects the Pukou District to Jiangxin Island in the city of Nanjing. Construction of the tunnel began in 2005. The tunnel broke through in 2009 and was opened in May 2010. The tunnel has renamed on 20 December 2019.
The Nanjing Baguazhou Yangtze River Bridge, was Second Nanjing Yangtze Bridge, is a cable-stayed bridge over the Yangtze River in Nanjing, China. The bridge spans 628 metres (2,060 ft) carrying traffic on the G36 Nanjing–Luoyang Expressway and new route of China National Highway 104. When it was completed it was the third longest cable-stayed span in the world. As of 2013 it is still among the 20 longest spans. The bridge crosses from the Qixia District in south-east of the river over to Bagua Island. The bridge has renamed on 20 December 2019.

Jiangxin Island, or Jingxinzhou, is a spear-shaped island in the middle of the Yangtze, east of the Jianye District in Nanjing, China, 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) from the city's downtown district.
