A caravanserai was a roadside inn where travelers (caravaners) could rest and recover from the day's journey. Caravanserais supported the flow of commerce, information and people across the network of trade routes covering Asia, North Africa and Southeast Europe, most notably the Silk Road. Often located along rural roads in the countryside, urban versions of caravanserais were also historically common in cities throughout the Islamic world, and were often called other names such as khan, wikala, or funduq.
Ganja is Azerbaijan's third largest city, with a population of around 335,600. The city has been a historic and cultural center throughout most of its existence. It was the capital of the Ganja Khanate until 1804; after Qajar Iran ceded it to the Russian Empire following the Treaty of Gulistan in 1813, it became part of the administrative divisions of the Georgia Governorate, Georgia-Imeretia Governorate, Tiflis Governorate, and Elizavetpol Governorate. Sumgait is a city in Azerbaijan, located near the Caspian Sea, on the Absheron Peninsula, about 31 kilometres away from the capital Baku. The city had a population of 491,068 at the 2019 Census, making it the second largest city in Azerbaijan after Baku.

The district borders the districts of Lankaran, Lerik, as well as the Ardabil and Gilan provinces of Iran. Its capital and largest city is Astara. As of 2020, the district had a population of 110,000.

Qarğabazar is a village in the Fuzuli District of Azerbaijan. It is located in the southern part of Fuzuli city, at the foot of Ilanlidag Mountain, at a height of 460 meters.
The Multani Caravanserai is a caravanserai located in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was established in the 14th century and is located opposite to the Bukhara Caravanserai.
The Small Cravanserai in Baku, Azerbaijan has a square shape and an inner quadrangular courtyard with cut corners. This caravanserai was built in the 12th century. There is a long balcony which surrounds the building of the caravanserai. The north and south entrances of the caravanserai are portal-shaped. During the Middle Ages, there was a main entrance from the sea. The caravanserai has a defensive construction and two floors on the southern side.

It is a part of Old City and located on Kichik Gala street, in the city of Baku, in Azerbaijan. It was also registered as a national architectural monument by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated August 2, 2001, No. 132.
Ashaghy caravanserai or Lower Caravanserai is a historical monument of the 17th century located in Azerbaijan, in the city of Sheki.
The Sangachal caravanserai is a medieval caravanserai located near the Sangachal village in the Garadagh district of Baku, Azerbaijan, 45 km far from Baku, on the old caravan route Baku - Salyan. Since the 19th century, the indicated caravan route has lost its commercial significance and in this regard, the caravanserai has ceased to be used.
Shah Sefi's Caravanserai is a historical and architectural monument of the 17th century located in the village of Balakhani. It was built in 1635-1636 by the master Burkhan and the sarkar Behbud at the order of the Safavid ruler Shah Sefi I.
Khanlig Mukhtar caravanserai is a nationally important caravanserai belonging to the Shusha State Historical-Architectural Reserve, located at 29 M.F. Akhundov Street, Shusha. The caravansary was registered by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Azerbaijan Republic as a historical and cultural monument of national importance.
Elturan Veli oglu Avalov is an Azerbaijani artist, Honored Art Worker of Azerbaijan (1991), professor (2003). He is a full member of the Eastern Countries International Academy of Architecture, the International Academy of Ecoenergetics, the Union of Azerbaijan Architects and the Union of Azerbaijan Artists.
Shah Abbas Caravanserai was built in Ganja by order of Shah Abbas. The caravansary was connected to Chokak Hamam and Shah Abbas Mosque by underground roads.
