Porto Inglês Settlement in Maio, Cape Verde

Porto Inglês is a city in the southwestern part of the island of Maio in southeastern Cape Verde. It is the main urban settlement of the island, and also seat of the Maio Municipality. Its population was 2,971 in 2010. The name Porto Inglês refers to English ships that exported salt produced on the island of Maio from this town. Salt exploitation continued until the 19th century. The inconclusive Battle of Maio was fought between British and French frigate squadrons close to the town on 23 January 1814 in the last stages of the Napoleonic Wars.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is a Roman Catholic cathedral in downtown Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. The cathedral is located on Praça da Independência next to Hotel Rovuma and Maputo City Hall. It is dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. The foundation stone for the construction of the church was laid on June 28, 1936, and is located inside the narthex and inscribed by the Bishop of Mozambique and Cape Verde, D. Rafael Maria da Asunção. Construction on the cathedral was completed in 1944.

The church was built between 1894 and 1902. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santiago de Cabo Verde, which was created in 1533. It is under the pastoral responsibility of Arlindo Gomes Furtado Cardinal.

The Pro-Cathedral of Our Lady of the Light is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde. It is located on Rua da Luz, in the city centre. Built in 1862, it is one of the oldest buildings of Mindelo. However, the church has been enlarged recently, leaving only the façade in its original state. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mindelo, created in 2003.

Praça Alexandre Albuquerque

Praça Alexandre Albuquerque is the main square of the capital city of Praia, Cape Verde. It is located in the southwestern part of the Plateau, the historical city centre of Praia. Formerly known as Praça do Pelourinho, it received its current name in 1876 in honour of the Portuguese colonial governor Caetano Alexandre de Almeida e Albuquerque. It is lined with several historical public buildings and townhouses, many of which date from the 19th century. The square is surrounded by Rua Patrice Lumumba, Rua Serpa Pinto and Avenida Amílcar Cabral.

Avenida Andrade Corvo

Avenida Andrade Corvo is an avenue in the Plateau of Praia, in the city centre of Praia, Santiago island, Cape Verde. It was named in honour of 19th century Portuguese politician João de Andrade Corvo. It runs south to north in the eastern part of the Plateau, parallel to Rua Serpa Pinto. Its northern end is formed by Praça Luís de Camões.
