Kigali is the capital and largest city of Rwanda. It is near the nation's geographic centre in a region of rolling hills, with a series of valleys and ridges joined by steep slopes. As a primate city, Kigali is a relatively new city. It has been Rwanda's economic, cultural, and transport hub since it was founded as an administrative outpost in 1907, and became the capital of the country at independence in 1962, shifting focus away from Huye.

The Rwanda Defence Force is the military of the Republic of Rwanda. The country's armed forces were originally known as the Rwandan Armed Forces (FAR), but following the Rwandan Civil War of 1990–1994 and the Rwandan genocide of 1994 against the Tutsi, the victorious Rwandan Patriotic Front (Inkotanyi) created a new organization and named it the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA). Later, it was renamed to its current name.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kigali International Airport</span> International airport in Rwanda

Kigali International Airport, formerly known as Kanombe International Airport, is the primary international airport serving Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. As of June 2024, there is an ongoing project to build another mega-airport in Bugesera District, Eastern Province, which will be the biggest and the main air gateway for all destinations in the country, in addition to serving as a transit airport for Goma and Bukavu in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. There are 4 airlines based at Kigali Airport: RwandAir, the flag carrier airline of Rwanda; Akagera Aviation, a Rwandan heli-company; Tempus Jet, an American airline providing charter flights; and Nexus Aero, a Saudi VIP airline.

Jean Mutsinzi is a Rwandan former jurist in the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights. He was elected for a six-year term of office on 22 January 2006 at the Eighth Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, held in Khartoum, Sudan.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Assassination of Juvénal Habyarimana and Cyprien Ntaryamira</span> 1994 shootdown in Kigali, Rwanda

On the evening of 6 April 1994, the aircraft carrying Rwandan president Juvénal Habyarimana and Burundian president Cyprien Ntaryamira, both Hutu, was shot down with surface-to-air missiles as their jet prepared to land in Kigali, Rwanda; both were killed. The assassination set in motion the Rwandan genocide, one of the bloodiest events of the late 20th century.

Nyamata is a town and sector in the Bugesera District, southeastern Rwanda. Nyamata literally means 'place of milk' from the two Kinyarwanda words nya- 'of' and amata 'milk'. It is the location of the Nyamata Genocide Memorial, commemorating the Rwandan genocide of 1994.

Richard Sezibera is a Rwandan medical doctor, diplomat and politician, who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 18 October 2018 until November 4, 2019. He replaced Louise Mushikiwabo. He was replaced by Vincent Biruta on November 4, 2019.

Zigama Credit and Savings Bank (ZCSB), is a microfinance bank in Rwanda. The bank is one of the financial institutions licensed by the National Bank of Rwanda, the national banking regulator.

India is represented in Rwanda through its High Commission in Kigali which opened on 15 August 2018. Rilima is a town and sector in southeastern Rwanda. It is the nearest urban center to Bugesera International Airport.

CoRSU Rehabilitation Hospital, is a specialized surgical hospital in the Buganda Region of Uganda. The hospital focuses on the surgical correction and rehabilitation of orthopedic problems which account for over 50 percent of the patients served. About 45 percent of those served, receive plastic surgery, VVF repair and burns treatment.

King Faisal Hospital is a hospital in the Kacyiru area of the Rwandan capital, Kigali. It was established between 1987 and 1991 with the help of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD). Being the largest referral hospital in Rwanda, King Faisal Hospital, Kigali, spreads over 7.9 hectares. It is located in an upscale area and has 18,000 square meters of floor space distributed over 4 floors and an extension building of 2,285 square meters of floor space. The hospital provides a range of highly specialized medical care, including the diagnosis of diseases and specialized treatment.

Masaka Hospital, Rwanda, commonly known as Masaka Hospital, is a hospital in Rwanda. It is an urban, general hospital built between 2008 and 2011, with funding from the Government of China, as a gift to the Government of Rwanda.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Claire Karekezi</span> Rwandan neurosurgeon

Claire Karekezi is a Rwandan neurosurgeon at the Rwanda Military Referral and Teaching Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda. As the first female neurosurgeon in Rwanda, and one of the eight Rwandan neurosurgeons serving a population of 14 million, Karekezi serves as an advocate for women in neurosurgery. She has become an inspiration for young people pursuing neurosurgery, particularly young women.

The University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) is a 519 bed-teaching hospital located in Kigali City, Rwanda. Founded in 1918 by Belgian colonialists, CHUK is the first and the biggest healthcare institution in Rwanda. CHUK has played a role in rebuilding Rwanda's healthcare after the genocide against Tutsi of 1994.
