Slovakia, officially the Slovak Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the southwest, and the Czech Republic to the northwest. Slovakia's mostly mountainous territory spans about 49,000 square kilometres (19,000 sq mi), with a population of over 5.4 million. The capital and largest city is Bratislava, while the second largest city is Košice.
Ivan Gašparovič is a Slovak politician and lawyer who was third president of Slovakia from 2004 to 2014. He was also the first and currently the only Slovak president to be re-elected.
The Slovakia Summit 2005 was a summit meeting between United States President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin. It took place on February 24, 2005, in Bratislava, Slovakia. This marked the first occasion when a sitting President of the United States visited Slovakia since its independence in 1993. The previous "Bush-Putin summit" had taken place in Slovenia on 16 June 2001.
Comenius University in Bratislava is the largest university in Slovakia, with most of its faculties located in Bratislava. It was founded in 1919, shortly after the creation of Czechoslovakia. It is named after Jan Amos Comenius, a 17th-century Czech teacher and philosopher.
Hungarians are the largest ethnic minority in Slovakia. According to the 2021 Slovak census, 422,065 people declared themselves Hungarians, while 462,175 stated that Hungarian was their mother tongue.
Karlova Ves is a borough in the city of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is located in the western part of the city close to the river Danube on the slopes of the Little Carpathians mountains and it is part of the Bratislava IV administrative district. A small, wine-making village for most of its history it was assimilated into Bratislava in the 1940s and in 1957, the construction of a large socialist panelák suburb started. Today, Karlova Ves has approximately 33,000 inhabitants and university dormitories in Mlynská dolina house an additional 15,000 students at the total area of 7874 meters squared.
Matej Bel University, is a public research university in the central Slovak town of Banská Bystrica. The university was established in 1992. It bears the name of Matthias Bel, a Hungarian-Slovak Lutheran scholar of the 18th century. UMB comprises six faculties that differ in character and history, each retaining substantial autonomy on financial and institutional affairs. The university provides undergraduate and graduate instruction in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Academically, Matej Bel University is noted mainly for international relations and finance.
Daniel Lipšic is a Slovak politician and Jurist. He is a former Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice and former Minister of Interior. Until 28 May 2012 he was a member of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), in which he served as vice-president and a Member of Parliament. Through his legal and political career, he is noted for his hard-line stance regarding officials from the former communist Czechoslovak regime, as well as crimes committed during this period. A public anti-corruption activist, he is outspoken against perceived corruption in the political or financial sphere.
Andrej Ďurkovský is a Slovak politician and former member of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH). After being elected the mayor of Bratislava twice – from 2002 to 2010 – he was elected into the National Council of the Slovak Republic in the 2010 Slovak parliamentary election. In the Slovak capital, he remains a controversial figure because of construction activities lowering the quality of life in the city, but many of his scandals resonated also on a nationwide level and culminated in Ďurkovský being forced to voluntarily leave his political party KDH in 2011.
The Pan-European University (PEVŠ) is a private university based in Bratislava. Its founding in 2004 as the Bratislava University of Law was mainly due to its co-founder and co-owner Ján Čarnogurský. The school gradually expanded the number of faculties and since 2010 has changed its name to the Pan-European University.

Michal Šimečka is a Slovak politician, journalist, researcher, and a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. He is the vice president, and one of the founding members, of the liberal party Progressive Slovakia, having successfully led the party's candidate list in the 2019 elections, where they received the highest percentage of the national vote. In February 2020, Šimečka was elected as vice president of the liberal fraction Renew Europe.
Vladimír Bilčík is a Slovak university lecturer and politician of the TOGETHER - Civic Democracy political party who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019.
Martin Hojsík is a Slovak activist, an environmental expert and a politician elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2019. In addition to his committee assignments, Hojsík is a member of the European Parliament Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals and a member of the political group Renew Europe. He is also a vice chairman of the non-parliamentary political movement Progressive Slovakia and their expert on environmental issues and sustainability.
