The University of the Philippines is a state university system in the Philippines. It is the country's national university, as mandated by Republic Act No. 9500, giving it institutional autonomy.
The University of the Philippines Los Baños, also referred to as UP Los Baños or colloquially as Elbi, is a public research university primarily located in the towns of Los Baños and Bay in the province of Laguna, some 65 kilometers southeast of Manila. Reynato Puno y Serrano, KGCR is a Filipino jurist. He served as the 22nd chief justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines from December 8, 2006, by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo until his mandatory retirement on May 17, 2010. Puno had initially been appointed to the Supreme Court as an associate justice on June 28, 1993.

The Hiyas ng Maynilad Dance Troupe is the official and premiere cultural dance company of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. The company, consisting of student-performers under the umbrella PLM President's Committee on Arts and Culture, made its debut performance during the University's anniversary celebration in 1982. Since then, it has presented dances in costumes that reflect the traditional culture of the Philippines. Together with the PLM Rondalla, the company has also appeared as the Hiyas ng Maynilad and Cultural Group.
Benjamin G. Tayabas is a US-trained Filipino educator and administrator. He is the longest-serving university president of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. He succeeded Dr. Jose D. Villanueva in 1989, Dr. Virsely M. dela Cruz in 2000, and Atty. Jose M. Roy III in 2006. His initial term as PLM president was broken when he briefly served as Undersecretary of the Department of Education.
Louie Mar Gangcuangco is a Filipino physician, HIV researcher and novelist. He is the author of the novel Orosa-Nakpil, Malate and is working as Assistant Professor of Medicine for the Hawaii Center for AIDS-University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

The Partido Lakas ng Masa is a democratic socialist political party in the Philippines.
