The Litta are an ancient noble Milanese family who produced two cardinals, Alfonso Litta and Lorenzo Litta. [1] The Litta became Marquesses in XVII century and Dukes in 1810.

<i>Madonna Litta</i> Painting attributed to Leonardo da Vinci

The Madonna Litta is a late 15th-century painting, traditionally attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, in the Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg. It depicts the Virgin Mary breastfeeding the Christ child, a devotional subject known as the Madonna lactans. The figures are set in a dark interior with two arched openings, as in Leonardo's earlier Madonna of the Carnation, and a mountainous landscape in aerial perspective can be seen beyond. In his left hand Christ holds a goldfinch, which is symbolic of his future Passion.

Giulio Litta, Viscount Arese, was an Italian composer. He was trained at the Milan Conservatory where his first opera, Bianca di Santafiora, premiered in 1843. He composed several more operas, most of which premiered at theatres in Milan. His last opera, Il violino di Cremona, was heard at La Scala in 1882.

Paolo Litta was an Italian composer. He was of mixed Italian and Swedish heritage. He was married to the Italian opera singer, Ida Isori, and dedicated the work, Le Lac d’Amour, to her. Litta was known for having a dispute with Valentine de Saint-Point on the possibility that some ideas in de Saint-Point's La Métachorie were copied from his work, la Déesse Nue. Relatively unknown even in Italian records such as the supplementary material for Dizionario Universale dei Musicisti by Carlo Schmidl, La Morte di Cleopatra was his noticeable work to the public until his death.
