Little Blue Crunchy Things (LBCT) was an American music group formed in the late 1980s in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. [1] They were active until 2000, and their sound evolved significantly throughout their career, blending elements of rock, jazz, funk, soul, and blues. Known for their dynamic live shows, the band often incorporated audience participation and freestyle lyrical content, especially with Noah Tabakin, [2] who became the de facto band leader after joining in 1991. [3]

Contents

The band's early lineup included Bill Backes on drums, Cara Davis on percussion/vocals, Rick Eels on bass, Douglas Haynes on saxophone, Brandon Mason on trumpet/trombone, Noah Tabakin on lead vocals and saxophone, and Michael Wengler on guitar. [4]

Their first album, Rhetoric (1994), [5] was independently produced and showcased their distinctive sound. Following this, the band experienced some lineup changes, with Eels, Mason, and Haynes leaving, and Fitzsimmons and Elliot joining.

Their second album, Owner's Manual (1996), was a live recording of a show at Shank Hall, featuring limited vocal contributions from Cara Davis.

Their third album, Swarm (1997), marked a shift towards a more blues-oriented style, leading to greater national recognition.

The band's fourth and final studio album, Babies (1999), was released as the band began winding down.

Despite disbanding in 2000, LBCT's members went on to pursue various musical projects. Tabakin, in particular, continued his musical journey with bands like Mucca Pazza and ssssnake, [6] while other members such as Ken Fitzsimmons and Bryan Elliot formed or joined different bands, including The Kissers and Prole.

The band occasionally reunited for shows in Madison and Milwaukee, keeping their legacy alive even after their breakup.
