Synopsis

Within the pressure-cooker reality of living and surviving in Dhaka, physically handicapped Sazzad has just lost all his money in a recent stock market crash. Struggling to survive and hounded by loan sharks, he no longer knows how to deal with his girlfriend Rehana, and his drug-addicted brother, Michael. As the pressure mounts, Sazzad becomes increasingly desperate to find any means to escape from Dhaka and his troubles, sinking deeper into the darkness of his soul.

Release and reception

The film premiered in Singapore International Film Festival on December 2, 2016. [3] It was released to theatres on March 29, 2019. [4] [5] At the 27th Singapore International Film Festival, it received Silver Screen Awards for Best Director and Best Performance (Mostafa Monwar). [6]

Shahid Hasan, known by professionally as Misha Sawdagor, is a Bangladeshi film actor known for playing villains. As of 2020, according to him, he has performed in more than 700 films. He won Bangladesh National Film Awards 3 times for his roles in the films Boss Number One (2011), Olpo Olpo Premer Golpo (2014) and Bir (2020). He first got noticed as a villain in the 1995 film Asha Bhalobasha starring Salman Shah. After Shah's death, he continued playing the villain opposite other actors, but failed to achieve any mainstream success or recognition. From 2006 onwards he started playing the main antagonist in a long string of hit movies starring Shakib Khan in the lead role and mostly Apu Biswas as the lead actress, and established himself as a leading antagonist in the Cinema of Bangladesh.

It is a collection of gritty shorts centered on the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka, and the people living in its margins. It was awarded "Best Original Screenplay" at the 11th edition of the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF), held in India in January 2019. It is one of the first two films to enter Netflix originating from Bangladesh. It was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. It was also screened at 51st International Film Festival of India in January 2021 in Country in focus section.

Hawa is a 2022 Bangladeshi mystery-drama film written and directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon. The film was produced by Sun Music and Motion Pictures Limited. The film stars Chanchal Chowdhury, Nazifa Tushi, Sariful Razz, Sumon Anowar, Shohel Mondol, Nasir Uddin Khan and Rizvi Rizu among others.

Bhalobasha Express is a 2014 Bangladeshi romantic drama film directed by Shafi Uddin Shafi and produced Mohammad Abul Kalam under his Titash Kothachitro. It features superstar Shakib Khan, Apu Biswas and Mim Chowdhury in the lead roles. Also Ahmed Sharif, Misha Sawdagor, Afzal Sharif, Abdullah Saki, DJ Shohel have played important roles in the film.
