Ljabru is a hill and neighborhood in the borough of Nordstrand in Oslo, Norway.

It is mainly a residential area with detached housing as well as larger blocks. It is served by the Ekeberg Line terminal station Ljabru. [1] It is located south of Nordstrand, east of Ljan, west of Mortensrud and north of Hauketo.

Toponymy

The neighbourhood is named after an old farm – Old Norse Ljarnarbrú. The first element is the genitive of an old rivername Ljǫrn, the last element is brú 'bridge'.

Operated by lines 13 and 19, it serves the area of Nordstrand and the neighborhoods of Ekeberg, Jomfrubråten, Bekkelaget and Ljan. The line is operated by Oslo Sporvognsdrift using SL79 and SL95 trams on contract with Ruter. The line itself is owned by Sporveien. At Oslo Hospital, the line connects to the Bjørvika Line, which runs to the city center.

The Alna River is a river that runs through Oslo, Norway, from Alnsjøen to the Oslo Fjord at Bjørvika. It also drains Breisjøen, Steinbruvann, Tokerudbekken, and Østensjøvannet. Large sections of the river run in culverts and the river is highly polluted, partially because it is used as a sewer drain.

Jomfrubråten is a residential area of Nordstrand in Oslo, Norway. It is located approximately 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) away from the city centre. The area was disintegrated from Ekeberg in 1920, and made a residential area when the Ekeberg Line opened in 1917. A station with the same name serves the area on the Ekeberg Line, and formerly on the Simensbråten Line, but the latter line was closed in 1967.

Ormøya is an inhabited island in the inner part of Oslofjord, in the municipality of Oslo. It is located north of the island Malmøya and west of the mainland at Bekkelaget / Nordstrand. The island covers an area of 0.18 square kilometres (0.069 sq mi) Ormøy Church, designed by architect Bernhard Steckmest, was built in the 1890s. On the island there are beaches, boating ports and a small park.

Ljan is a residential neighborhood in the borough Nordstrand in Oslo, Norway. It is located in the eastern rolling hillsides of the fjord Bunnefjorden. To the south Ljanselva which begins at Lutvann has its mouth, and where it runs through Liadalen at Ljan it also constitutes the border with borough Søndre Nordstrand. The number of inhabitants was about 3,500 in 2004. Ljan Church is known as one of the very few churches in Norway that was built in the 1930s in the Romanesque Revival style. The public beaches at Ljan are Hvervenbukta, Ljansbadet and Katten, and in addition there are a number of private bath houses along Mosseveien. The borders to the north and east are less obvious and drawn between the school circuits Ljan and Nordstrand. The name originates with an Old Norse river name Ljǫrn but the meaning has been lost to time.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nordstrand Church</span> Church in Oslo, Norway

Nordstrand Church is a church in Oslo, Norway. The church was consecrated in 1866 as Østre Aker Chapel and was later renamed Sæter Chapel. In 1905 the Nordstrand congregation was established, and the following year the church changed its name again to Nordstrand Church. The church was built in red brick in neo-Gothic style by architect Jacob Wilhelm Nordan. In 1886 a sacristy was added, and in 1935 it was extended and given a new church tower to the west, drawn by architect Georg Greve. The last and largest expansion took place in 2014 to 2015. Then the church was extended 26 meters to the east and the church congregation got new facilities in the basement. The number of seats in the church room was increased from approx. 300 to 480. Architects for the remodeling work were Are Meinich and Trine-Lise Sonne. The church was reconsecrated on Sunday, August 23, 2015, by bishop of Oslo Ole Christian Kvarme.

The Oslo Central Station bombing was a bomb attack on the central train station of Oslo, the capital of Norway, on 2 July 1982. The homemade bomb was hidden in a locker at Østbanehallen and the explosion caused extensive damage to the station. A young woman, Elin Stoltenberg Dahl was killed.
