Llandeilo is the name of an electoral ward for Carmarthenshire County Council, which includes the communities of Llandeilo and Dyffryn Cennen, in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is represented by one county councillor.

Description

The Llandeilo ward covers the town of Llandeilo the neighbouring rural community of Dyffryn Cennen, [1] which includes the village of Ffairfach. [2] The usual population of this ward at the 2011 census was 2,971. [3]

Representation

Llandeilo was the name of a ward to Dinefwr Borough Council from 1973 until 1996, though its representation (and boundaries) changed on several occasions. [4]

A smaller county ward of Llandeilo Castle was initially created for the new Carmarthenshire County Council at the 1995 election. [5] The Llandeilo electoral ward in its current two-community form was created in 1998 to elect one county councillor at every election from 1999. [1]

Independent councillor Ieuan Jones represented the ward from 1999. He did not stand at the 2012 elections and the ward was won by another Independent, Edward Thomas, [5] who was re-elected in 2017 and 2022. Thomas eschews party politics and claims to have never been a member of the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, Labour Party or Conservatives. [6]

Christoph Fischer, Llandeilo town councillor and founder of the Llandeilo Book Festival, stood for Plaid Cymru in 2022, [7] though failed to unseat the sitting councillor.

Llanfihangel Aberbythych is a community in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The population recorded at the 2011 census was 1,344. It is bordered by Llangathen, Llandeilo, Dyffryn Cennen, Llandybie, Gorslas and Llanarthney, all of which are in Carmarthenshire. There is no village of Llanfihangel Aberbythych – the name is taken from St Michael's Church, which dates from 1849, at Golden Grove, about 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Llandeilo. It now belongs to the Church in Wales parish of Catheiniog. Villages include Carmel and Maesybont.

The first election to Dyfed County Council was held in April 1973. It was followed by the 1977 election. The vast majority of the councillors elected had been members of one of the three previous county authorities which were merged to create Dyfed, namely Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire.

Ammanford is the name of an electoral ward to Carmarthenshire County Council, representing the community of Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
