Lloyd Phiri is a Malawian gospel musician and praise and worship leader. [1] [2] [3] He released his debut album "Sachedwa Safulumira" (He does not hurry nor late) in 2013, containing 10 tracks which received positive reviews and established him as a rising star in the Malawian gospel music scene. [4] He has since released several successful albums and singles, including "Mundikondane" (You love me), "Mwalaika", and "Ndilibe (I don't have)". [4]

Early life

Lloyd Phiri was born on October 12, 1985, in Blantyre, Malawi. He grew up in a Christian family and developed a passion for music at a young age. He started his music career as a member of the Great Angels Choir before pursuing a solo career. [2] [1] [4]

Music career

Phiri started his musical career in 1998. He has released eight albums and six video albums. In 2001, he released his first album "Musagwedezeke," and in 2013, he released his album "Sachedwa Safulumira". [4] He has worked with other artists such as Allan Ngumuya, Favoured Sisters, Allan Chirwa, Wyclief Chimwendo, Ethel Kamwendo Banda, The Joshua Generation, Thoko Katimba, Kafita Nursery Choir, Maggie Mangani, the late Geoffrey Zigoma, Bertha Nkhoma, Living Waters Praise Team and Princess Chitsulo. Phiri is known for his powerful and soulful voice, as well as his energetic live performances. He is also a worship leader at a local church. [2] [4]

In their UK tours they opened for UK hip-hop artists like Blak Twang and Terri Walker. It was just as their international career was taking off that the group separated. Stix decided to leave the music industry and follow religious pursuits. The group currently is pursuing personal interests.

Shafie S. Phiri is a Malawian artist better known by his stage name Driemo. He started his music career in early 2017 in Nkhotakota district. At the time, his stage name was Smart P, and he changed it into Driemo in 2020. In 2021, he released "Duma", which garnered him a lot of commercial success. His debut EP, "Love Letter", was a commercial success. Other successful singles include "Mojo" and "Weni-Weni".

Skeffa Chimoto is a Malawian musician and a member of the "Real Sounds" band. His debut sophomore album "Nabola Moyo " was well received and critically acclaimed, topping music charts all over Malawi. Ojonimi Abraham Ejigbo better known by the stage name Nimix is a Nigerian Afro gospel singer and songwriter. He is well known for the hit song “Sapa no fit catch me”, which was released in 2021

Thoko Katimba, also spelled Thocco Katimba, is a Malawian gospel singer, songwriter and businessman. He released his first debut song in 1999 titled Asayansi bodza that gained him national recognition. He released his first debut album titled Unasankha Ndani and this was the album the audience mistook his voice and name for a lady.

Mizaya Princess Chitsulo, best known as Princess Chitsulo, is a Malawian gospel singer, activist and businesswoman. In 2001, she was honored an award for Best Female Vocalist in the Malawi Gin Competition. In 2014, she also got awarded as best female artist and her song titled Ndidzayimba Nyimbo was voted as the best song of the year.

Grace Chinga Moffat or simply Grace Chinga, was a Malawian gospel singer, songwriter and vocalist. She released her debut studio album titled Uleke (Stop) in 2004 that had a hit song titled Thandizo Langa which made her gain national recognition. In 2009, Chinga released her third studio album titled Udzayimba Nyimbo before releasing the fourth studio album titled Esther in 2016.

He was also an outspoken advocate for albinos in Malawi and faced discrimination. His last album, Ndathera mwa Yesu, features songs that talk about his battle against skin cancer.
