Lois B. DeFleur (born June 25,1936) was president of Binghamton University from 1990 to 2010. She came to the university after being provost at the University of Missouri. Before that she had served as a sociology professor at Missouri State University and Washington State University. She has a doctorate in sociology from the University of Illinois. She studied juvenile delinquency in Latin America and has done extensive work in the fields of deviant behavior and occupational socialization.
DeFleur became the president at Binghamton University in 1990,making her the longest serving president of the university to date. She resigned in disgrace at the end of July 2010 after being implicated in the Binghamton University basketball scandal.

Eric LaFleur is an American attorney and politician. A Democrat,LaFleur is a former member of the Louisiana State Senate for the 28th district,serving from 2008 until 2020. Lew Perkins was an American athletic director. He ended his 40-year career at the University of Kansas (KU),having joined in June 2003,taking over for Al Bohl. Perkins previously held similar positions with the University of Connecticut,University of Maryland,College Park,Wichita State University and University of South Carolina Aiken where he gained a reputation for successfully cleaning up schools suffering under NCAA violations. Under Perkins direction,the athletics program at KU had several successful seasons,including winning the 2008 Orange Bowl in football and the 2008 men's basketball championship. His tenure,though,ultimately ended in scandal and early retirement in 2010.
The Binghamton University basketball scandal refers to a series of incidents that occurred as Binghamton University compromised its integrity in order to make the Bearcats men's basketball program more competitive in Division I. Numerous Binghamton players were arrested and dismissed from the team in the fall of 2009,continuing a troubling trend of misconduct from basketball players at the university. The arrests led to an investigation by the State University of New York (SUNY),Binghamton's parent institution,which found that Binghamton's administration had significantly lowered its admissions standards for prospective recruits under pressure from men's head coach Kevin Broadus and his staff. It also detailed several potential NCAA violations by Broadus and his staff. Numerous Binghamton professors admitted to academic fraud,having changed grades for basketball players upon pressure from members of the athletic department.
The Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team represents Binghamton University and is located in Vestal,New York. The team currently competes in the America East Conference and plays its home games at the Binghamton University Events Center. Since becoming an NCAA Division I basketball program in 2001,the team has played in one NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2009.
