The Eurovision Song Contest 2004 was the 49th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Istanbul, Turkey, following Sertab Erener's win at the 2003 contest in Riga, Latvia with the song "Everyway That I Can" – marking the country's first victory in the contest. The national broadcaster Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), staged the event at the Abdi İpekçi Arena on 12 and 15 May 2004.

TRT presented the song that Sibel will sing in a special televised press conference, and presented the video clip which involves Sibel wearing a red hat with the Turkish flag on it. The song features a combination of a disco theme with oriental elements.

Elnur Hüseynov is an Azerbaijani singer. He was Azerbaijan's representative to perform "Day After Day" at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 alongside Samir Javadzadeh as duo Elnur and Samir. In 2015, he won the fourth season of The Voice of Turkey and represented Azerbaijan in the 60th Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Hour of the Wolf".

The band included Olcayto Ahmet Tuğsuz who went on to compose Turkey's Eurovision entries in 1982 and 1987 and San Marino's entry in 2016. Their song "Sevince", written by Dağhan Baydur and H. Aktunç came a clear first at the Turkish TV contest, finished at 18th of 20 with only 2 points. The B-side was "Darling", also written by Baydur. Dağhan Baydur would later (1999) produce the Turkish-language Beatles cover album Beatles Alaturca with Fuat Güner of MFÖ and Erdal Kızılçay.
Ellinikós Telikós is a song contest which takes place every year in Athens, Greece. This contest decides who will represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest. The contest started in 1979, when Elpida took the title. Until 2001, Greece introduced the televoting and jury to decide for the singer and for the song which will represent Greece in the Contest. Over the years, the contest takes place in various venues, from TV studios to concert halls. The most famous winners include Helena Paparizou, Kalomira, Sakis Rouvas, Anna Vissi, & Katy Garbi.
