Billy Joe Royal was an American pop and country singer. His most successful record was "Down in the Boondocks" in 1965.

Three singles from this album charted on the Country Singles chart. The first was Burned Like a Rocket , which peaked at #10. This was followed by I Miss You Already (#14) and Old Bridges Burn Slow (#11).

"Burned Like a Rocket" is a song written by Gary Burr, and recorded by American country music artist Billy Joe Royal. It was released in October 1985 as the first single from the album Looking Ahead. The song reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. It was Royal's first Top 10 hit on that chart, and his first charting single overall since 1978.

Gary Burr, born in Meriden, Connecticut, is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer, primarily in the country music genre. Many of the songs he has written have become Top-10 hits, the first of which was "Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me" released by Juice Newton in 1982. He became a member of the group Pure Prairie League, taking over after Vince Gill departed the group. Burr later moved to Nashville to focus on his songwriting career, though he has continued performing and is currently a member of the Blue Sky Riders. He has written and co-written songs for a large number of country artists, and a few songs for Pop and Rock artists.
