Lorenzo Pilat (born 24 June 1938), also known as Pilade, is an Italian singer-songwriter and composer, mainly active between the second half of the 1960s and the 1970s.
Born in Trieste, Pilat started his career performing in clubs of his hometown. [1] [2] In 1963 he entered the Clan Celentano label, making his record debut with "Ciao ragazzi ciao". [1] [2] In the following years he entered the Festivalbar and took part in the Sanremo Music Festival three times, in 1966 as part of the supergroup "Trio del Clan" together with Gino Santercole and Ico Cerutti with "Il ragazzo della via Gluck", in 1968 with "Il re d'Inghilterra" and in 1975 with "Madonna d'amore". [2] [1] His main hits were "Shenandoah" (a cover of traditional song "The Legend of Shenandoah") and "La legge del menga". [2] In the 1970s Pilat focused his activities on composing song for other artists, often collaborating with Daniele Pace and Mario Panzeri; among the best known songs he penned, were Tom Jones' "Love Me Tonight", Adriano Celentano's "L'attore", Gigliola Cinquetti's "Sì" and "Alle porte del sole", Gianni Nazzaro's "Quanto è bella lei" and Orietta Berti's "Non illuderti mai" and "Finchè la barca va". [2] [1] As a singer, starting from the 1970s he specialized in revisiting traditional triestine songs. [1]

The Sanremo Music Festival 2014 was the 64th annual Sanremo Music Festival, a televised song contest held at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, Liguria, between 18 and 22 February 2014 and broadcast by Rai 1. Fabio Fazio and Italian comedy actress Luciana Littizzetto presented the show, which was based on the same rules adopted for the previous contest. Competing artists were split in two different sections—Big Artists and Newcomers. The Big Artists section included 14 established Italian artists. During the first and the second night of the show, each act performed two songs, and only one song per act was allowed to continue the competition, as a result of votes received by public and journalists. After the third night, Riccardo Sinigallia's entry, "Prima di andare via", was disqualified for being performed during a concert preceding the competition. During the final night, Arisa's "Controvento" was announced as the winning song for the Big Artists section of the contest. The Newcomers' section featured eight songs performed by debuting or little known artists. The winning entry, Rocco Hunt's "Nu juorno buono", was announced during the semi-final of the contest.
