The Markham Thunder was a professional women's ice hockey team in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). From 1998 through 2017, the franchise was known as the Brampton Thunder and Brampton Canadettes-Thunder before relocating from Brampton, Ontario, to Markham, Ontario, for the 2017–18 season. The CWHL ceased operations in 2019 and no further statements about the Thunder were made.

Courtice Secondary School is a public high school in the community of Courtice in Clarington, Ontario, Canada, at the corner of Nash and Courtice Roads. It was built in the late 1950s and opened in September 1960. The school has just under 1,000 students and is a part of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. It has five feeder schools: Courtice North P.S., Lydia Trull P.S., Courtice Intermediate School, Emily Stowe P.S., and S.T. Worden P.S.. Courtice Intermediate School is located in the same building as Courtice Secondary. It opened in September 2013 as a response to overcrowding at Dr. G. J. MacGillivray. Grade 7 and 8 students from the Dr. G. J MacGillivray area are now directed to Courtice Intermediate.; the French Immersion program for grades 7 and 8 in the Courtice area has also been moved to Courtice Intermediate. Beginning in the fall of 2014, Courtice Secondary will also be home to the French Immersion program for French Immersion students starting grade 9.
Lori Christine Chalupny is a former American soccer defender who last played for the Chicago Red Stars and the United States women's national soccer team. She is a gold medalist from 2008 Beijing Olympics, and a bronze medalist in 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup hosted by China. She was also on the roster of the United States national soccer team for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada. She is the current head woman's soccer coach of Maryville University in St. Louis.
Lesley Allison Thompson-Willie is a Canadian rowing coxswain and Olympic champion. Between 1984 and 2016, she has competed at eight Olympic Games, a record for a rower, winning medals in five of them including gold in coxed eight at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

Lori Ann Lindsey is a retired American soccer midfielder who last played for Canberra United in the Australian W-League and was also a member of the United States women's national soccer team player pool. She played one match in the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany and was named an alternate for the 2012 Olympics in London.

France is expected to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games have been postponed to a date not later than summer 2021, because of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. French athletes have appeared in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era, alongside Australia, Great Britain, and Greece. As Paris will host the 2024 Summer Olympics, France will be the penultimate nation to enter the stadium before the host country Japan. Additionally, a French segment is expected to be performed at the closing ceremony.
