Louise Crawford (born 1978 in Queensland, Australia) is an Australian film and television actress, who is a councillor and former mayor of the City of Port Phillip. [1] Crawford has appeared in many Australian soaps and dramas, including a role as Sgt. Karen Hatzic in primetime drama series City Homicide . [2]
Crawford is a member of the Victorian branch of the Australian Labor Party.
Crawford is an activist for climate change action and trained with Al Gore in The Climate Reality Project. She was the unsuccessful Labor candidate for the seat of Brighton for the 2014 Victorian state election. In 2016, Crawford was elected as a Councillor of the City of Port Phillip, Canal Ward. On 29 Nov 2018 Cr Crawford was elected Deputy Mayor of that council. She also ran for the Australian Senate in the 2019 Australian federal election but was unsuccessful.
Crawford was re-elected as a Councillor for Port Phillip in October 2020, and served as Mayor from 2020 to 2021. Under her leadership the Council faced significant challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Crawford first came to notice as Shelley Radcliffe in the 1995 Network Ten soap opera Echo Point . In 1996, she temporarily stood in for actress Tempany Deckert in the role of Selina Roberts on Home and Away , while Deckert recovered from illness. [3] In 1998–99, Crawford appeared in Breakers , a short-lived soap opera series which aired on Network Ten, as Lucy Hill. She also appeared on Neighbours as Abby Stafford in 2007 and as Detective Ellen Crabb in 2013, reprising the role again in 2016.
She also appeared in Forget The Rules , a cross-platform 'dramedy' series which appeared on Foxtel's Channel V, but could also be watched on the Internet and on mobile phones. [4] [5] and hosted the reality series Scream Test. Additionally, she appeared as a regular panellist on Beauty and the Beast , and has dabbled as a scriptwriter, writing episodes of Breakers and Home and Away .

A soap opera, daytime drama, or soap for short, is typically a long-running radio or television serial, frequently characterized by melodrama, ensemble casts, and sentimentality. Selina Cook is a fictional character from the Australian Channel Seven soap opera Home and Away, played by Tempany Deckert. She debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 5 May 1994. Deckert was given the role of Selina after her third audition for the show. In 1996, Deckert fell ill and Louise Crawford played Selina in her absence. In 1997, Deckert decided to leave the serial, however briefly returned in 1998. Her return was filmed in Ironbridge, Shropshire, as part of the serial's first ever overseas location filming. Selina's last appearance to date was on 30 March 1998, where she agreed to marry Steven.

Aviva "Viv" Newton is a fictional character from the Australian television soap opera Home and Away, played by Mouche Phillips. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 5 July 1989. Phillips audition for the role and informed her she had been successful via an answering machine message. She began filming the same week but Phillips was immediately unhappy with her experience. Viv was written out of the series the following year and she made her final appearance during the episode broadcast on 25 May 1990. Phillips later revealed that she found the role to be unchallenging and the show's writing repetitive. Phillips reprised the role in 1991, for the UK theatre tour of Home and Away: The Musical.

Julian Christopher Hill is an Australian politician who is as of July 2016 serving as an Australian Labor Party (ALP) Member of Parliament for Bruce in the House of Representatives. Hill was previously the fourth Mayor of Port Phillip and was elected to parliament at the 2016 federal election, where he succeeded Alan Griffin. He was appointed Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship following a ministerial reshuffle on July 29, 2024.
