The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns water ski program is a co-ed collegiate water ski team that represents the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the National Collegiate Water Ski Association. It is one of the two most successful college programs in the sport's history, having won 10 national championships – in 1995, 1997, 2003, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023. History

The team's primary rival is the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the only squad with more national titles than the Ragin' Cajuns. Between 1993 and 2013, the two Louisiana schools split 29 of the 30 national championships awarded. [6] (The 2020 championship was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.) The sole non-Louisiana champion in that span was Arizona State, in 2001. [6]

Water skiing is not a sport organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), so Louisiana's squad operates as a club sport, within the National Collegiate Water Ski Association and USA Water Ski & Wake Sports. [7] The team's head coach since 2011 is Ryan Gonzales, a native of New Iberia, Louisiana. [8]

The team draws recruits internationally and is one of the few universities to offer scholarships for water skiers. [9] Its 2023 national championship team included members from Argentina, Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. [5] In the 2021 IWWF World Waterski Championships, nearly one-sixth of all competitors were either current or former Ragin' Cajuns skiers. [10]

The Sabine Shoe is the name of the bronze shoe trophy that was awarded to the winner of the annual college football game between the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana and the Lamar Cardinals of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. The Sabine Shoe trophy was first awarded in 1968 by the University of Southwestern Louisiana's chapter of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity. The name of the bronze rivalry trophy was derived from the Sabine River that forms part of the Texas–Louisiana border. USL defeated Lamar in the 1978 edition of the rivalry game, but the Ragin' Cajuns were not awarded the trophy as it had vanished. The Sabine Shoe trophy now sits in at trophy case in the Ragin' Cajun Athletic Complex in Lafayette.

The 2017–18 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team represented the University of Louisiana at Lafayette during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Ragin' Cajuns were led by eighth-year head coach Bob Marlin and played their home games at the Cajundome as members in the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 27–7, 16–2 in Sun Belt play to win the Sun Belt regular season championship. The conference championship was the school's first since first regular-season title since sharing the 2000 title and its first outright title since joining the conference in 1991. They defeated Texas State in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt tournament before losing in the semifinals to Texas–Arlington. As a regular season conference champion who failed to win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to LSU.

From 2017 until 2021, he served as head coach at the University of Louisiana, amassing a 40–12 record in four seasons with three consecutive 10+ win seasons and two seasons finishing in the AP Poll, both firsts in the programs' history. Prior to Louisiana, he served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arizona State University in 2017.

Gerald Dean Glasco Jr. is an American college softball coach who is currently head coach at Louisiana and the Women's Professional Fastpitch team Smash It Sports Vipers. Previously, Glasco had been a high school softball coach, an assistant at Georgia and Texas A&M, and National Pro Fastpitch head coach with the USSSA Pride and Scrap Yard Dawgs.

Dorien Llewellyn is a Canadian water skier. Llewellyn was the Pan American Games Champion when he won gold in men's water skiing at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima. He also owns 21 national water skiing titles to his name. His father Jaret Llewellyn is an 11-time world champion, 12-time Pan American Games medalist, and owns a record 117 professional titles; while his uncle Kreg Llewellyn was also a professional water skier.

O'Cyrus Torrence is an American football guard for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Louisiana and Florida.

Garry Brodhead is the coach of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team since 2012. Before joining the University of Louisiana at Lafayette team, Brodhead worked as a farmer between 1978 and 1997. For his basketball career, Brodhead was the girls coach at Teurlings Catholic High School from 1997 to 2007. While accumulating 297 wins and 78 losses, his team won the 3A division of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association tournament in 2002. Brodhead also co-founded the Acadiana Stars girls basketball team in 1987 and the Girls World Biddy Basketball League by the mid-1990s.
