Loyola University of Congo, also referred to by its acronym ULC, is a private Roman Catholic higher education institution run by the Central Africa Province of the Society of Jesus in Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was founded by the Jesuits in 2016. The Jesuits have pursued educational efforts in Kinshasa since 1954, [1] and have named the university after the founder of the Jesuits, Ignatius of Loyola.
Loyola University of Congo was born out of the merger of the Agroveterinary Higher Institute (ISAV) and the Faculty of Philosophy St. Peter Canisius, both located in Kimwenza, Kinshasa. Loyola University inherited the infrastructures of these institutions. [2] ULC organized departments of philosophy, agronomic and veterinary sciences, science and technology, social sciences and managements science, and business administration. [3] [4] ISAV has changed its name to Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Science (FSAV).
FSAV does research in agriculture, veterinary, and sustainable development, where sustainability involves anthropological, social, and economic factors. [5] [6] It offers programs at the bachelors and masters levels. [7] Since 2016 it has worked in conjunction with the National Institute for Professional Preparation to enhance the food processing industry. [8]
In September 2017 Loyola announced a partnership with the French Institut catholique d'arts et métiers (ICAM) for collaboration in the training of engineers for industry. [9]
Kinshasa is the capital and largest city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Once a site of fishing and trading villages along the Congo River, Kinshasa is now one of the world's fastest-growing megacities. With an estimated population of 16 million residents, it's the most densely populated city in the DRC and the most populous city in Africa. Parenthetically, it is Africa's third-largest metropolitan area and the leading economic, political, and cultural center of the DRC. Often described as the "economic giant of Central Africa," it houses numerous industries, including manufacturing, banking, telecommunications, and entertainment. The city also hosts some of DRC's significant institutional buildings, such as the Palais du Peuple, Palais de la Nation, Court of Cassation, Constitutional Court, Cité de l'Union Africaine, Palais de Marbre, Stade des Martyrs, and multiple federal departments and agencies.
Gombe, also known as La Gombe, is one of the 24 communes that are the administrative divisions of Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Formerly referred to as Kalina, the name originated from Lieutenant E. Kallina, an Austro-Hungarian soldier who volunteered in the Independent State of the Congo. Encompassing a vast area of approximately 29.33 square kilometers, it is home to an approximate population of 49,024 residents.
Lovanium University was a Catholic Jesuit university in Kinshasa in the Belgian Congo. The university was established in 1954 on the Kimwenza plateau, near Kinshasa. The university continued to function after independence until it was merged into the National University of Zaire in 1971. It can be considered an antecedent of the University of Kinshasa.

Troposphere is a Congolese rocket family first developed in 2007 at the private enterprise Développement Tous Azimuts (DTA). The project is managed by Jean-Patrice Keka Ohemba Okese, head of DTA, a graduate of the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Appliquées (ISTA). The program aimed at launching experimental rockets that would not exceed an altitude of 36 km. The launch site is located in an area owned by DTA at Menkao, 120 km East of Kinshasa.
Djo Issama Mpeko is Congolese professional footballer who plays as a defender for Linafoot club TP Mazembe and the DR Congo national team.
National Library of the Democratic Republic of Congo is located in Kinshasa and was established in 1974 as an office within Ministry of Culture and Arts. In 1989, it became autonomous under presidential order.
The Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral also called Boma Cathedral Is the name given to a religious building affiliated with the Catholic Church which is located in the city of Boma in the province of Bas Congo in the western part of the African country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It should not be confused with the «Old Cathedral» also dedicated to the Assumption of Mary in the same locality.
The Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Science (FSAV) at Loyola University of Congo dates back to Agro-Veterinary Higher Institute founded by the Society of Jesus in Kinshasa in 1994. The purpose of its founding was to further ecologically sound and sustainable food development in the central African region.
Henri-Thomas Lokondo Yoka was a Congolese politician who served as a deputy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo National Assembly from 2011 until his death in 2021. He previously held office as Deputy Minister of Public Works from 1993 until 1994 and Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations from 1996 until 1997. In the 2000s he formed his own party, the Union Congolaise pour la Liberté.
Aloïs Kabangi Kaumbu was a Congolese politician. He served as Minister of Economic Coordination and Planning of the Republic of the Congo from June to September 1960 and again from February 1961 to July 1962.
Isidore Ndaywel è Nziem, is a Congolese historian and linguist. He is the author of several essays, studies and other publications about the history of the Congo, including the overview work L'histoire générale du Congo: De l'héritage ancien à la République démocratique.
Jean-Claude Willame is a Belgian professor emeritus specialised in the political history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He obtained his PhD in political science at the University of California, Berkeley in 1971. He was a professor at the Université nationale du Zaïre from 1971 to 1975. In 1989, he was the deputy director of the Centre d'études et de documentation africaines (CEDAF), which developed into the contemporary history section at the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren. He retired as a professor at the UCLouvain Faculty of Economic, Social and Political Sciences and Communication at the Université Catholique de Louvain. As an independent expert within the Coimbra Group, Willame went to Congo-Kinshasa and Congo-Brazzaville to study opportunities of cooperation between the European Union and ACP countries.

The Gare de l'Est, also known as Kinshasa Est or Kinshasa Central Station, is a central railway station situated in the Gombe commune of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Positioned along the Matadi–Kinshasa Railway line, it functions as a pivotal transshipment point connecting the railway and the river. Managed by the Société Commerciale des Transports et des Ports, the station stands near Ngobila Beach at the Port of Kinshasa, fostering maritime links with Brazzaville, and is conveniently located close to SCTP buildings and the Ministry of Transport and Channels of Communication.
